Reversing a redirect[edit]

Ibrahim El-Salahi is a redirect to Ibrahim el-Salahi. But, of the sources it cites that I'm able to access and that mention his name, 15 use "El" and only one uses "el". So I'd like to move that article to "Ibrahim El-Salahi" and make the redirect go the other way. Am I, as an editor with no relevant special powers, able to do this? If so, how? Maproom (talk) 09:22, 14 August 2021 (UTC)

@Maproom: Since the redirect has more than one line in its history, the move needs an admin. The usual way to request this is with {{db-move}} -- John of Reading (talk) 09:35, 14 August 2021 (UTC)
I have gone ahead and moved the article, although I have no thoughts of my own as to where it should lay. The best place to request these is WP:RM under technical moves. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 10:03, 14 August 2021 (UTC)
@Maproom: What a mess. Take a look at Wikipedia:Arabic names and its links. Apparently, the "proper" English translation of an Arabic name with "al-" or "el-" is the uncapitalized form and our convention is to use that as the article name, but the uncapitalized forms are so common in the sources that we are advised to be very aggressive about creating redirects. Essentially, the "el" or "al" means "the", so capitalizing is is equivilent to capitalizing "the" in Bob the Builder. -Arch dude (talk) 16:33, 14 August 2021 (UTC)

Your article will be reviewed in about a week[edit]

I made and edit and published. Wikipedia then says, "your article will be reviewed in about a week". If I then make another edit 3 days later, does the week long estimate start over? Does my article go back to the end of the line for review? Or, does it stay in que in the same position?

If I submit an article and wikiepedia says it will be reviewed in about a week, then I make edits 3 days later and publish again, does my article for review stay in the same place in the que, or does the clock start over and my article goes back to the end of the que? Blmalone (talk) 11:33, 14 August 2021 (UTC)

Blmalone the message says, "This may take a week or more, since drafts are reviewed in no specific order." There is not a queue, so you will not lose your place by further edits. TSventon (talk) 11:46, 14 August 2021 (UTC)

Fair use on photo of people[edit]

Why I cannot have fair use on living person? because only dead person have lesser privacy protection? How to get possible to use photo of living people other than fair use? thank you. Hmht45tgree3d (talk) 20:13, 14 August 2021 (UTC)

Be the copyright holder of an image. We cannot have fair use on living people, as generally the WP:NFCC criteria of being replaceable isn't met. If someone is alive, then someone could take a free image of the subject. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 20:18, 14 August 2021 (UTC)
@Lee Vilenski: Obligatory nitpick: "fair use" is a US copyright law concept that does not involve the living/dead distinction. On Wikipedia, we have in addition to fair use NFCC#1, which is understood to ban photographs of living persons. But that criterion would not apply on other websites. @Hmht45tgree3d: If you cannot take a picture yourself, you can try sending a polite request to the person or the person's agent asking for a picture to be placed on the web somewhere with an explicit CC-BY-SA license. Explain why you want this. -Arch dude (talk) 22:50, 14 August 2021 (UTC)

Lock page[edit]

How to lock Walmart article so only employees of Walmart can edit it and require proof of employment to edit page -- 2600:1000:b00f:2617:2ca6:9bb2:12d8:aecb

I suspect it would be the opposite. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 00:11, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
Yeah, that's not how Wikipedia operates, sorry. The article on Walmart summarizes what independent reliable sources say about Walmart, not what Walmart wants to say about itself, which it is free to do on Walmart dot com. Walmart employees should not directly edit the article about their company, but they may make edit requests. It's also unlikely Wikipedia would get access to Walmart computer systems to be able to verify employment. 331dot (talk) 00:21, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
In conclusion, what you want is both technically impossible and against Wikipedia's principles. This is an online encyclopedia, not a promotion platform for companies. Walmart employees can edit Walmart's own website to promote their business. JIP | Talk 00:35, 15 August 2021 (UTC)

I have seen that these pages are “protected” and unable to edit. They continuous false narrative that Turkey’s invasion of Cyprus is wrong. Every article has a talk page. I suppose that the article Cyprus is high up on your list of articles that, in your view, should be reworded. If so, then go to Talk:Cyprus, and, at the foot of that page, make your case. (Incidentally, I thought that in most contexts "intervention" was merely a euphemistic way to say "invasion".) -- Hoary (talk) 12:31, 15 August 2021 (UTC)

IP property and irredentist statements[edit]

Hi

If I had a email address I could forward the registration of IP property being misused.

Plus Wikipedia is being used for irredentist false posts. In other words a political misinformation tool.

So many laws are being broken on Wikipedia once it was a great source of information however now it is a free for all service. Anybody can post whatever they want.

I believe Wikipedia should be removed there is no control. I am now disappointed in making a contribution to Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.200.5.166 (talkcontribs) 13:41, 15 August 2021 (UTC)

This is the help desk, where you ask for help. You have not asked for help, you have just made complaints that are so vague that there is nothing actionable. What intellectual property is being misused?
You can find an email address at Wikipedia:Contact us but the people who handle the email queue are Wikipedia volunteers just like the editors here. You would get more eyes on your issue if you simply explained it on this talk page. ~Anachronist (talk) 14:05, 15 August 2021 (UTC)

Problems of new page and user page[edit]

Hello, I need your help!

I wanted to create a page of my grandfather, eminent painter Joseph Spinel. 1. I was asked to create the user page, and there somehow "reveal" that I am the grandson of Joseph Spinel. I did that, but now I don't see my user page. Why? 2. i have read that i can remain anonymous in wiki. How should I then fulfill the 1st point? 3. i have prepared the page Joseph Spinel, got a message what i have to correct, but can't find this message, nor my draft.

I would be very grateful for your help! — Preceding unsigned comment added by ‎ Lubomudr58 (talkcontribs) 14:14, 15 August 2021 (UTC)

@Lubomudr58:
1. Put a notice about your conflict of interest on your user page User:‎Lubomudr58.
2. You are anonymous. You created an account but nobody knows who "Ludomudr58" is, unless you want to disclose your identity on your user page. You don't have to. You just need to state that you have a conflict of interest with a particular topic.
3. Go to Wikipedia:Articles for creation and follow the instructions there to create a draft article and submit it for review. Draft space of your own sandbox are the only places where you should be editing about a topic with which you have a conflict of interest.
Also bear in mind that Wikipedia is not to be used for memorials. If your grandfather meets the inclusion criteria, then he can have an article here. Please see Wikipedia:Golden rule to get a good overview of what we expect in a draft article before it can be published. ~Anachronist (talk) 14:18, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
Where is the page you created? There is nothing in your contribution history about it. I'll add that there is already a draft article at Draft:Joseph Spinel but you have not contributed to it, so that is probably a different person. If you create a draft, give it a different name (like the full name of the person). ~Anachronist (talk) 14:24, 15 August 2021 (UTC)

There is another editor Amade58 who has declared a COI as a grandson of Spinel. Is that you, Lubomudr58, or someone you may like to know about? If it is you, please use that account only to continue working on the draft. Mike Turnbull (talk) 16:41, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
Yes, I have 2 different accounts for different languages, which is not good, but you can't delete an account. The Article is here Draft:Joseph Spinel

This is not my first article. I know the rules of Wikipedia and know, that "Wikipedia is not to be used for memorials"- but it's about a filmmaker who made the film that got 39th place out of 100 best films in international film history in the rating of professional film critics in some years. Rottentomatoes: Tomatometer 100% Audience Score 91% - It must be something significant. Nevertheless, I cannot understand why the article with all the proofs etc. is not accepted. That's why I need your concrete help. Sincerely, Amade50 alias Lubomudr58

@Michael D. Turnbull:

Thanks! But: I wrote that I created a page and a conflict of interest entry appeared there, but now it stands again that there is no such page. In addition, the entry appeared after I wrote that Joseph Spinel was my grandfather, that is, it is no longer anonymous. Or should I have written something else? And why did that page disappear? And: I cannot write down the pronunciation of the name "Spinel" correctly, the first letter S must sound like "Sh". Unfortunately, "ʃ" is not accepted. What must I da? Thanks!

We now believe that you initially logged in as Amade58, but that you have now logged in as Lubomudr58. If so, pleaswe abandon one of these accounts and continue using the other one. The Amade58 user page has an acceptable COI declaration and did all the work on Draft:Joseph Spinel. By "anonymous" we only mean that Wikipedia has not verified your identity. This is not a problem, and most editors remain anonymous in this fashion. You are free to tell us your real name or not on you user page. -Arch dude (talk) 20:46, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
For your second question, please look at Help:IPA, IPA scares me, but I can usually get it right. My GUESS is that your typographical letter, while it looks correct, is actually a different unicode. Here is your character: "ʃ". Here is the IPA for the Voiceless postalveolar fricative: "ʃ", which I generated using the HTML string "ʃ" because I don't know the correct way to do it. -Arch dude (talk) 20:46, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
Arch dude: ʃ does not work. Nor does copying a ʃ from Help:IPA/English. I eventually solved that problem by copying a ʃ from Robert Schumann. I cannot explain why that worked better. Maproom (talk) 22:40, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
@Lubomudr58: To ‎Michael D. Turnbull

Dear Michael, I would like to delete Lubomudr58, but I'm not sure if everything works there, because I used this account for the pages in German, there are also the permissions of the pictures, talks, notifications etc.. Won't that have unforeseeable consequences? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Amade58 (talkcontribs) 16:08, 17 August 2021 (UTC)

@Michael D. Turnbull: Courtesy ping. GoingBatty (talk) 16:44, 17 August 2021 (UTC)
@Amade58: It is not possible to delete accounts - see Wikipedia:Username_policy#Deleting_and_merging_accounts. As Arch dude mentioned above, you can just stop using it. You can also make a note on User:‎Lubomudr58 and User:Amade58 that you have stopped using Lubomudr58. GoingBatty (talk) 16:44, 17 August 2021 (UTC)

Thanks! I can make a note, but not mow, because I am currently discussing my new articles in other languages and I am afraid that some commentators do not notice this and continue to write to Lubomudr58.

Editing style of table[edit]

Hello, I am creating a draft for the page "Results of the 2021 Japanese general election". The draft will be published a few days before the election actually happens (in september), but I am starting it now so when the election actually happens there is less to do.

My question pertains to the following section of my draft page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Bwmdjeff/2021election#Overall_Results

In the section "Overall Results", I made a table. However, most of the rows of the table are in bold text. I want it so that only the first column and first/second rows are in bold. How do I do this.

ThanksBwmdjeff (talk) 14:24, 15 August 2021 (UTC)

@Bwmdjeff: The Help:Table page has complete documentation. Preceding a cell with an exclamation point makes it into a bold table header cell, and preceding it with a vertical bar | makes it a regular cell. The very first example in that document should be helpful. ~Anachronist (talk) 14:35, 15 August 2021 (UTC)

How do I appeal a rejection?[edit]

I recently put up a short bio and identification of a very distinguished archivist (the head of the Italian State Archives) and the curator of a number of important archaeological and historical museum exhibitions. He was rejected out of hand as not being significant by a guy who seems to work on Lego. I wonder if there is any way to appeal this sort of thing? It is true that if I were asked to accept the biography of some important Lego person I might be unimpressed too, but there does seem to be a misfit between the rejector and the subject. What should I do next? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Elifent (talkcontribs) 10:08, 16 August 2021 (UTC)

You can simply renominate it. Bare in mind your bio needs to meet WP:GNG (or its sub-guidelines), which is based on the sources being used. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 10:13, 16 August 2021 (UTC)
@Elifent: Your draft has three paragraphs which do not have any footnotes. Please be sure that every fact in your draft can tie back to the appropriate reliable source before resubmitting. Thanks, and happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 13:10, 16 August 2021 (UTC)
  • @Elifent: Your draft was declined, not rejected. If it had been "rejected", it would have meant that the reviewer thinks the draft could never become a Wikipedia article, and you might need an appeal of some sort. "Declined" means that the reviewer thinks the draft might still be improved enough to be accepted, so no appeal in necessary, you just need to improve it, and then resubmit it. DO NOT resubmit it until you believe you have properly responded to the reviewer's comments. A draft might be declined several times as long as you are clearly making progress, but it will edn up being rejected if you are not responding to the reviewer's comments. In the current case you need to establish the notability of your subject by supplying reliable sources that satisfy our requirements for notability (WP:N). This is a higher standard than just being reliable (WP:RS). this is easy to mess up: see WP:CSMN. -Arch dude (talk) 16:08, 16 August 2021 (UTC)

Error with Interwiki linking[edit]

Hello, I have recently been very active on the Ladin language Wikipedia, which is my native language. I have created several new articles and linked them to the equivalent articles in other languages. This usually worked fine, but in some cases when trying to link the articles, I got the error message: "You do not have the permission to carry out this action." and then it said in Italian "this page is protected...." I understand that some pages are protected, but why would I thus not be able to link my page to them? Especially since the pages I create are about very non-controversial topics, such as "glass" or "municipalities in Italy". These are the two pages that I have been unable to link to:
- https://lld.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frazion_(Talia) attempted to link to https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fraktion_und_Circoscrizione_(Italien)
- https://lld.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scipa attempted to link to https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glas Is anybody able to assist me with this? Thank you very much! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Asenoner (talkcontribs)

@Asenoner: The language links are stored at Wikidata items. Click "Wikidata item" under "Tools" in the left pane to see them. They are semi-protected per wikidata:Wikidata:Protection policy#Highly used items in your examples: frazione (Q1134686) and glass (Q11469). It doesn't matter whether the Wikipedia articles are protected. Wikidata requires an account to be 4 days old and have 50 edits to edit semi-protected pages. You only have 12 Wikidata edits: wikidata:Special:Contributions/Asenoner. You can use wikidata:Template:Edit request on the item talk page. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:32, 16 August 2021 (UTC)

Mobile diff conversion tool?[edit]

I want to be able to click on a mobile diff and convert it to a regular diff. Is there a script or tool that does that? Thanks.--Bbb23 (talk) 13:23, 16 August 2021 (UTC)

@Bbb23: I'm not sure what you mean by "convert", but when you're on a mobile diff, the "Desktop" link at the bottom of the page leads to a normal diff, no script or tool needed. – Rummskartoffel 16:44, 16 August 2021 (UTC)
@Rummskartoffel: Usually, when I don't want to even look at mobile diffs, they're all around me. Now, when I do want to look at them, I can find only one. Take a look at the first sentence of this thread. When I click on the mobile diff, I don't see a desktop link at the bottom. Is it because it's a link rather than a diff? I'd want to convert those, too, but if you can point me to a mobile diff, I can at least tell you what I see.--Bbb23 (talk) 18:29, 16 August 2021 (UTC)
It's a link to one section expanded; that's why it's not showing the desktop link. You have to hit the back button to get to the page view and navigate to the bottom. Then look for the section yourself after the desktop mode loads (easier to remove the "m." from the url manually). I don't know if it's going to be any help, but I have sent you in mail a three-year old discussion I found in the internet. Regards! Usedtobecool ☎️ 19:09, 16 August 2021 (UTC)
@Usedtobecool: The back button part didn't work, at least not for me. Your e-mail suggestion mostly worked (I'm still talking about the same mobile link on my Talk page). It changed to normal view, but it didn't jump to the section the way the mobile link did. If I had a "real" mobile diff to try, that'd be nice. Thanks for your help.--Bbb23 (talk) 20:10, 16 August 2021 (UTC)
@Bbb23: Okay, as Usedtobecool says, that's a section link and not a diff – just edit the URL in your address bar. With a mobile diff like this [1], there should be a "Desktop" link at the bottom of the page. – Rummskartoffel 21:09, 16 August 2021 (UTC)
Mobile diff pages have a fixed unscrollable part at the bottom which can give the false impression you are at the end of the page. Do you see a Desktop link if you scroll the page to the end? PrimeHunter (talk) 21:41, 16 August 2021 (UTC)
Using the diff provided by Rummskartoffel, I do see it ... and it works when I click on it. Thanks everyone.--Bbb23 (talk) 21:58, 16 August 2021 (UTC)

Penelope Wilton Page - Nazi symbol[edit]

Hello,

I clicked on the actress Penelope Wiltons page from the Downton Abbey Wikipedia page and from the internet. It has been replaced with an all red background and a Nazi symbol in the middle of the page.

Madeline Kahn's wiki[edit]

Madeline Kahn's wiki page, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madeline_Kahn, has been replaced with a large picture of a swastika on a red background. I'm assuming it's some sort of hack/prank, just wanted to call attention to it.

Nazi page sign on phone[edit]

If i search for Travis Barker (Blink-182) on my phone and look for the english version my whole screen gets red with a big Nazi sign. If i search it on my computer i get the normal page. Does anyone knows why?

My Wikipedia article[edit]

Dear Wiki Team,

I have a question to you. I recently uploaded a Wikipedia Page about the "climate-ADAPT" Platform. But now its gone and not saved in my account. Do you know what I can do to get it back?

Best, Maya — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chiaramzztt (talkcontribs) 14:25, 16 August 2021 (UTC)

Your contributions don't show any active or deleted contribution about "climate-ADAPT". It is possible you closed your browser without submitting the changes, or there was some kind of network error. In that case, unless you saved a local copy, your article is lost forever. JIP | Talk 14:52, 16 August 2021 (UTC)

Getting around Notability issues[edit]

Hi all, I have just created a new article for my football team's current football season (2021-22 Millbrook A.F.C.) but been told that it will be deleted due to notability. They play in the fifth rung of the English national football league system, so they're not exactly a pub side!

Can someone help me get around this issue? I have read that I could potentially add in multiple seasons to the article which might help, but I don't want to spend a few weeks doing that unless it is definitely going to work!

Any help would be much appreciated

Kind regards Ryan

Millbrook A.F.C. already has an article. Does it really need a spin-off article for a season that's only just starting? This season won't (yet) be notable in Wikipedia's sense. Mike Turnbull (talk) 15:33, 16 August 2021 (UTC)
And, actually, I see that the season is indeed already here: 2021–22 Western Football League. Mike Turnbull (talk) 15:35, 16 August 2021 (UTC)
This club plays at a level five divisions below the usual cut-off point for notability (based on WP:NSEASONS). The article should not have been created and is now at AfD. Number 57 16:26, 16 August 2021 (UTC)
Just to clarify the article that is at AFD is 2021-22 Millbrook A.F.C. Season and not the 2021-2022 WFL season linked by MDT. MarnetteD|Talk 16:46, 16 August 2021 (UTC)

Floating table of contents[edit]

I'm currently trying to tidy up a very messy article, about the "Hutch-Kinahan feud". It had a very VERY long table of contents, which I have now adjusted and limited. However, it's now hovering above the lede section and I can't figure out why or how to get it back. Please advise. Xx78900 (talk) 17:44, 16 August 2021 (UTC)

Skin[edit]

Hi Folks!! I accidently changed my skin. Is there any way to get back to CologneBlue, perhaps via customisation? I'm really used to it, but it it looks as though it is deprecated. scope_creepTalk 20:41, 16 August 2021 (UTC)

@Scope creep: Go to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Preferences?useskin=cologneblue#mw-prefsection-rendering and you should be able to select it, but be aware that it may be removed completely at some point in the future. – Rummskartoffel 21:13, 16 August 2021 (UTC)
Hi @Rummskartoffel: That is it back. I'll switch to Monobook nearer the time, I guess. The rest of the skins are pretty unusable on desktop and even the Sea of Blue on Monobook is a bit off-putting. It would be better if it has a very light shade of yellow or pink in the main panel to differentiate it slightly and provide contrast. Thanks for that. scope_creepTalk 21:25, 16 August 2021 (UTC)

Walk The Moon & "Can You Handle My Love??" Page Edits[edit]

Hello,

I work for Walk The Moon's management team and the band has noticed several errors on their page (Walk the Moon) as well as the page for one of their recent songs, "Can You Handle My Love??" (Can You Handle My Love??). We would love your help correcting these errors.

1. On the main Walk The Moon page - Under the Band Members & Credits and Personnel sections - Nicholas does not play bass.

2. On the "Can You Handle My Love??" page - Sean Waugaman and Eli Maiman should also be listed as writers everywhere Nicholas is. Also, Eli should be given credit for playing bass on the song, not Nicholas.

Please let us know what you need from us in order to correct the errors on both pages. Thank you for your time and assistance here.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Ianmickmgmt (talkcontribs)

Have a great day!

Ianmickmgmt Couple of things first. Edit requests are for the article talk page, Talk:Walk the Moon and Talk:Can You Handle My Love??. Second, as a paid representative of the band, you are required by the Wikipedia Terms of Use to make a formal paid editing declaration. I will post more about this on your user talk page. Lastly, if your username is that of your agency, you will need to change it as accounts are for individuals only. Again, I will post more on your talk page. 331dot (talk) 20:59, 16 August 2021 (UTC)
@Ianmickmgmt: When you post your suggestions on the article talk pages, please use the {{request edit}} template to draw attention to your request, and provide a reliable source to support your suggestions. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 01:23, 17 August 2021 (UTC)

Wikiproject Nursing Homes, is there a counterpart to Wikiproject Hospitals[edit]

I know that the talk page of an article about a hospital is supposed to have a {{wikiproject Hospitals}} entry. Is the counterpart {{Wikiproject NursingHomes}} or {{wikiproject Nursing Homes}}, or, third choice, am I missing something? (I looked at WP:WikiProject Council/Directory and tried the search box. It didn't find anything answering my question/either variation/2 words or NursingHomes). Pi314m (talk) 22:23, 16 August 2021 (UTC)

@Pi314m: It's not quite what you were looking for, but you can check this out: Wikipedia:WikiProject Nursing. There is a category for nursing homes, just not a dedicated Wikiproject. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 23:38, 16 August 2021 (UTC)

@Regibus: I see you have created a draft, but it is not ready to become an article. First, read WP:NACADEMIC to determine if he meets Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, called "notability". If so, then you will need to add more independent and reliable sources as references. Then you can add {{subst:submit}} to the top of the draft to submit it for review. There's lots more information at Help:Your first article. Happy editing! (Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four keyboard tildes like this: ~~~~.) Commons & Wikidata[edit]

Moin. I'm afraid I'm too long away from the en:wp, I can't even find where to properly add this observation - sorry. It's not exactly a question that requires help, as the commons-link I just added to Haverhill–Bath Covered Bridge does work, far as I can tell. I however got a warning that the cat-name I used, Bath-Haverhill Bridge, does not link up to Wikidata. Should this contrib of mine lead to a problem I thought I should mention it somewhere just in case, and being unable to find a better place, I thought mentioning it here might bring it to the attention of someone who knows better than me to report or adress it accordingly. Who knows when a watcher might happen upon the edit or the article disc.? Regards, --G-41614 (talk) 07:15, 17 August 2021 (UTC)

Pinging Wikidata experts @Pigsonthewing and Tagishsimon: for assistance. Mjroots (talk) 08:32, 17 August 2021 (UTC)
@G-41614: It wasn't an error and you didn't have to do something. It was a hint that it might be beneficial to do something. Click "Wikidata item" under "Tools" in the left pane of Haverhill–Bath Covered Bridge. This gives Haverhill-Bath Covered Bridge (Q14705332) which at the time had no link to Commons at the bottom. It was added a little later in [3] so there is no longer a preview warning on the article. The Wikidata Commons link generates a Commons link under "In other projects" in the left pane of the article, and in other wikis listed at the Wikidata item. In this case there is de:Bath-Haverhill Bridge. After commons:Category:Bath-Haverhill Bridge was connected to the Wikidata item, it links the English and German articles under "In Wikipedia". PrimeHunter (talk) 13:15, 17 August 2021 (UTC)
Well ... thank you for the explanation. Long as the proper ends are connected ... yes, I have no more than a general idea about WD. With the kind permission of all those involved and not involved, I'll leave it at that. If this page and the en:wp in general require/know something akin to the planting of an Alder the de:wp knows, i. e. marking a section as resolved, far as I can say now would be the time. Thank you all again, --G-41614 (talk) 16:47, 17 August 2021 (UTC)

What was wrong is that you mistakenly moved your incomplete sandbox draft into mainspace, so I've moved it back. At the moment it has no references, but has many misplaced external links in the article text. Please read the advice at WP:Your first article, & the links therefrom. When you think that it satisfies the mainspace requirement you can submit it for AFC review. --David Biddulph (talk) 08:43, 17 August 2021 (UTC)

How do I appeal a rejection? (Draft:Eugenio Lo Sardo)[edit]

Symbol redirect vote2.svg Courtesy link: Draft:Eugenio Lo Sardo

I created a page on Eugenio Lo Sardo, a very distinguished Italian archivist and exhibition curator. He has curate3d a number of important shows, like Eur3ka, on Hellenistic Science in Naples, and is well-known in his field (far better than I am and I have been on Wikipedia for years). The page was fully referenced, but it was then rejected by an editor who seems to be interested in Lego. Now, I can understand that lego person might react 'bah, another boring academic' and I might have the same reaction to a games person.

There seems to be a serious disconect between the reviewer and the subject. Is there anyway I can appeal this? Then, I can't actually find the draft page any more, how do I get back to it?

-Elizabeth Fentress .

The draft page is Draft:Eugenio Lo Sardo. It appears that the draft was declined by Sahaib3005 but I fail to see what their interests have to do with anything. An explanation was given in the notice as well as on your talk page. You can revise the draft and resubmit it with more references which meet the criteria provided to you (show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject) Notfrompedro (talk) 16:46, 17 August 2021 (UTC)
(ec) Hi Elizabeth Fentress. Draft reviewers are volunteers like any other, and don't need a specific knowledge on the subject they are reviewing, all they need to know are the policies and guidelines that define whether a subject might be notable or not to have an article in the project. Since are knowledgeable on the subject, it might be obvious to you why that person is notable, but you need to show it through the use of reliable sources. After your draft is rejected, you can either keep working on it and then submit it again for review, at which point another volunteer will reacess it, or you can contact the person who rejected it and explain to them why you believe the subject is notable. Isabelle 🔔 16:52, 17 August 2021 (UTC)
@Elifent: You already asked this question in the #How do I appeal a rejection? section above. In the future, please keep conversations in one place instead of starting a duplicate. Also, if you are Elizabeth Fentress, then you have a conflict of interest (COI) in editing the Elizabeth Fentress article. You may declare your COI on your user page and use the {{request edit}} template on the article talk page when you have suggestions to improve the article. If your COI extends to this draft, please declare that as well. Thanks! (Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four keyboard tildes like this: ~~~~.) Page Previews[edit]

Hi,

for a personal project, I'm using the (dutch) Wikipedia-page of Belgian Beers (https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lijst_van_Belgische_bieren)

With copy-paste I could copy all the beers to an Excel-file. So far so good.

But I also want - in that Excel-file - a column with the URL of the image as seen with PagePreview when hoovering the name of the beer.

Where can I find this information?

Wim

Some comments:
It's a worthy objective, which I will gladly help you with. It won't help with contributing to Wikipedia, but this Help Desk is about "how to use or edit" Wikipedia, so I'll answer here.
When I hover (not "hoover") over those beer names, I don't see any images. That's because the articles that those names link to don't contain any images.
If I wanted to do this myself, I would write a Perl script to grab the wikisource of the page, parse it for the name and wikilink of each beer, grab the wikisource of each linked page, and parse that for the first image URL. That is not how Wikipedia itself provides the hover images, but is likely to give the same results. The script would, for each beer, output a line with the beer name, a separator (a tab would do), and a URL – I assume you could input such a file to Excel. Maproom (talk) 08:17, 18 August 2021 (UTC)

What do I need to do to place this userbox from meta-wikimedia.org on my User Talk page? At the moment, I've simply pasted in the entire code, but would prefer it to be more elegant, with just one line and a properly functioning cross-wiki link. Thanks Nick Moyes (talk) 10:08, 18 August 2021 (UTC)

You cannot use userboxes or other templates from other wikis. You could make a version at Template:User Environmental Sustainability Covenant. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:55, 18 August 2021 (UTC)

Italic script for species[edit]

RE https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trichomonas_vaginalis On the English version of the article on Trichomonas_vaginalis one is presented with the binomial name in Italic script....which is the correct form! Unfortunately, other language versions don't use this form of script, for example Italian (https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trichomonas_vaginalis) and Irish Gaelic (https://ga.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trichomonas_vaginalis), how can one correct these errors?Ériugena (talk) 10:08, 18 August 2021 (UTC)

@Ériugena: The convention on English Wikipedia is explained at MOS:TAXON, which for species binomial names does mean that italics are used. I can't speak for other language Projects, which may well have their own rules. Mike Turnbull (talk) 10:24, 18 August 2021 (UTC)
What makes you think that those Wikipedias have conventions to present the name in italic script? Do you have links to the relevant guidance? If they do have, you need to raise the question at those Wikipedias, not here on the English Wikipedia. --David Biddulph (talk) 10:26, 18 August 2021 (UTC)
@Ériugena The binomial looks to be in italics in the Italian infobox, but not the Gallic one. I've not checked, but is this an issue across every taxon there on those wikis? If so, this would seem to be a style/formatting issue that would need to be discussed and addressed on those individual wikis, not here. Nick Moyes (talk) 10:26, 18 August 2021 (UTC)

Xx78900, it's a bit tricky to put footnotes inside of notes. See Wikipedia:Nesting footnotes for how to do it. StarryGrandma (talk) 14:26, 18 August 2021 (UTC)

Brooklyn Bushwicks[edit]

As a kid growing up in Woodhaven, Queens (at the Brooklyn-Queens border) I spent many Sundays with my dad going to Bushwick doubleheaders. We lived close enough to walk to Dexter Park. I wish I could remember the date, but we went to a game where NY Yankee pitcher Whitey Ford, who recently died, played for the US Army team against the Bushwicks and hit a triple. In your article, it was noted that several Yankee stars, Joe DiMaggio, Babe Ruth & Lou Gehrig had also appeared there and thought you might be able to add Ford to the article. It had to be in the early 50's, probably during the Korean War. I remember the names of two teams I watched play there, The Philly Stars and The House of David. There was also some kind of "clown team" but I don't remember their name. Thanks. Walt Hughes Cincinnati, Ohio

I have added Whitey Ford to the Brooklyn Bushwicks article. ~Anachronist (talk) 15:00, 18 August 2021 (UTC)

Cite sketch[edit]

In 1825 the Revd John Skinner made a sketch of the Skerne Bridge, included it in his 'Record of a Journey through the North of England', and left it (with 145 other volumes) to - eventually - the British Library. The BL gave it a catalogue number 'Add MS 33684, f. 89'. What is the most appropriate way to cite this sketch? --Verbarson (talk) 16:11, 18 August 2021 (UTC)

Hi[edit]

Need help fixing table[edit]

Need someone to help edit this list article I made. The dates in the column of "Date of rank" are all misaligned despite being set to align="right". I want to get that alignment fixed so that it looks like the other lists I created and those I have tried to emulate in style. I've tried for a while but can't seem to find the issue. Is there anyone who knows enough about this kind of thing that can fix the issue without changing the table format to look different from those on the aforementioned list articles, at least visually?
