Needs a cancel feature

I was shopping around for contractors to do some renovations and repairs. I’ve used other apps/websites (Angie’s List, Thunbtack) for similar things successfully in the past. At the end of answering all the questions, there was no contractors available to do what I was looking for, which was weird since it’s not a complicated job and there’s a quite a few general contractors around this area.

I tried again, and this time it found 2 contractors... both were not specialized in the work I wanted done and neither were the type I was looking for, nor were they local. Unfortunately, I couldn’t cancel the project on the app. I eventually got an email asking how my project was going, and that’s when I finally was able to cancel. In the meantime, I kept getting calls from Home Advisor (not contractors) asking if they could send me recommended contractors, and by no surprise, the ones they recommend I contact are the same exact 2 that I didn’t want to use. I deleted the app, and likely won’t use it again, they are really bothersome and will call you everyday to check on how your “project” is going, which might be nice for some people, but I just found really bothersome.

App needs a cancel project feature and a “do not call/contact me” feature.

Not sold on it.

I’ve had some suspect dealings. One person came out and gave me a reasonable price. Then we he started he came back and said it needs some additional work. This is after the deposit and states he can’t insure the other part without doing this part. I had one person show up almost two hours late and didn’t call to notify me he was going to be late. Angi has a policy they need to do better at informing customers about. I needed to have a section of drywall replaced. When he finally got there he asked me did I have the materials? No one comes out to your home and takes a look to tell you what your going to need. Somehow the customer is suppose to know what the workers will need. Getting a tv mounted is one thing but consumers are suppose to know what kind, size and quantities will be needed. Customers are suppose to know what kind of nails or whatever else they need to hang the drywall. They charged me for the job then when I complained they said the money is only for the labor we are suppose to provide the products needed. I was charged 400 to replace a section of drywall but instead al he did was mud the hole. I had to make a complaint to get refund. Angi doesn’t ask you any questions about the job or confirm it was done correctly. I had to sit on the phone about an hour to make a complaint and then wait a couple days for someone to email me. Then they reduced the charge to 200 but didn’t refund me the difference but gave me a credit.

Do not use - Home Depot service finder much better

Tried to book through the app and the service provider went to the wrong address in another city. The service provider let me know this was not the first time this has happened. HomeAdvisor charged me $500 for a service not provided and tried to offer me a credit claiming I "cancelled" the appointment.

Reluctantly (and against my will), I tried to use the credit letting HomeAdvisor book the professional for a week later. When I connected with the professional ahead of the appointment to ensure the details were correct he let me know that they only booked his service for half the job i originally requested and he didn't have the time to complete the service. He also texted to let me know this happens very often when customer service books a request. So now I am two weeks behind schedule on my move into my new home. Dealing with HomeAdvisor's customer service has been the worst experience ever. Probably worst than IRS or DMV because you never email or talk with the same person and they basically just provide template responses. They actually tried to say that they would not charge me the $15 of cancelling within 24 hours when it was their incompetency that caused the issue. I would not recommend using Home Advisor - you are much better off getting quotes your self or using Home Depot's local service provider tool. They have a much better system and customer service response.
