EastBay PlayReaders

Alameda, CA

EastBay PlayReaders

VIRUS UPDATE: We are now reading on ZOOM with some in person readings as scheduled. Regular Zoom readings Sundays at 3:00pm and Wednesday Evenings at 7. Bring your own snacks and coffee! Script provided as always. Susan and Jeff

PLEASE BE SURE YOU HAVE SET YOUR MEETUP NOTIFICATIONS ON IN YOUR PROFILE, IF YOU WISH TO JOIN THIS GROUP. WE DEPEND ON MEETUP TO KEEP YOU INFORMED.

A Sunday afternoon or Wednesday Evening, a beverage of your choice, a few snacks, a fantastic piece of playwriting, and a group of avid VOICE ACTORS who've had fun reading well over 300 plays since 2010! What could be better?

Check out our Play List that we have already read HERE. Our play readings

Below is an extensive description of this group and its rules.

EastBay PlayReaders is a group for actors and experienced readers who are theater lovers and would like the social experience of group reading and performing, script in hand or device. The group is open to those who will commit to reading and understanding the play and being prepared with a part. This is not a drop-in group, and requires EMAIL communication with the Play Reading Organizer in order to be cast in a role. Previous play reading experience is highly desired. In Person readings are in Alameda, CA. But we are excited that ZOOM has brought us readers from all over, who can cope with time zone changes.

Our readings are prepared, scheduled and cast. If you are looking for a "maybe I will stop by" group, please pass on us. Members who become cast and are no-shows, with no warning or explanation to the Organizer, will be removed from the group.

Typically an IN PERSON play reading will involve (1) social time to get to know each other (2) reading of the play(3) eating and drinking (4) discussion of the play (5) occasional post-reading social games. Our event is a potluck with everyone pitching in to supply drinks and snacks. Special needs folks should bring their own snacks.

The play reading can include both readers and audience, if extra people want to sit in and listen.

CASTING: Plays are selected and pre-cast by the organizer, and scripts and cast lists are distributed at least a few days to one week in advance, so parts can be prepared. The aim of casting is to produce the best overall reading of the play, to ensure a positive group experience. In a group with different levels of voice acting expertise, senior level voice actors or readers will normally get the heaviest roles. This serves to produce an exceptional reading, and also sets an example for others to improve their VOICE ACTING delivery.

Casting typically follows gender and character descriptions from the play itself, although exceptions are made. Requests to be cast in a particular role are usually welcomed and granted unless a role has already been cast.

Any issues with casting should be taken up privately with the organizer.

Please be mindful of your direct contact of members in this group. If any member messages the organizer that they are receiving unwelcome or awkward private messages from you, then you will be removed and banned indefinitely from this group.

If you are only interested in in-person events, we will not be meeting until we are out of the pandemic. All you have to do is to check this meetup page at least once every couple of weeks to get updated as an active member.

We want to make sure our members are active or have the intention for making real connections with real people. Please check this meetup page periodically so that the organizer knows that you want to continue being a member.

The organizer removes any members that have been inactive over four months. If you are removed but want to stay a member, please re-submit for approval. You must have a current face photo on your member profile.

Looking forward to hosting fun and unique online and in-person events for everyone. Thank you for joining us!

********UPDATE as of 5/17/2021********

Message from founder Jennifer:

Hello Everyone!

We had reached 370 active members in this meetup group (meaning everyone has either attended an event or clicked onto our meetup webpage within the last 4 months. This meetup group has now become a Private group. As of 5/17/2021 members who have been inactive for 4+ months have been removed.

Moving forward there are requirements that I will ask of you to maintain your membership:

1. Your face photo must be current and clear. If you have a full body photo and we can see your face clearly then that is okay. If you are wearing sunglasses, a face mask or showing us your back, side of your face or I cannot make out how you look and I have yet to meet you in a zoom meeting, I will remove your membership. If I already know you (this includes being on a previous video zoom meeting) then you do not have to change your photo.

2. Please update your member profile for this meetup group so that at least your first name is real (full names or last initials always welcome).

3. Unless it is a POP UP zoom meeting, you must rsvp YES if you will be attending an online OR in-person event.

4. If you no show to an in-person event your membership will be canceled.

5. If you no show two (2) times to an online event, your membership will be canceled.

6. For the Men: Always direct message me before contacting any female member in this group. If someone contacts me and tells me that you direct messaged or private chatted them in a zoom meeting and it made them feel awkward, uncomfortable or unsafe, your membership will be canceled.

If your membership is canceled please make the required modifications to your profile for this meetup group and re-submit your membership for approval. Know that you can have a different photo and name for your main meetup profile page if you are trying to be incognito outside of this meetup group.

I am going to host events at my home and need to make sure I know who you really are before you can attend. I also need to make sure everyone here is looking to make real friendships and authentic relationships. This is not a meetup group meant for shallow or superficial conversation or to support people who are inconsistent or unreliable.

Here is my direct text phone number in case you have any questions or if you cannot make an event last minute due to an emergency: 650-346-3598

Thank you for your friendship!

East Bay Ramblers

Oakland, CA

East Bay Ramblers

Welcome to East Bay Ramblers! This group is all about hiking for fun and fitness. We hike on weekday mornings...and also on weekends. If you love to hike, this is the group for you!

Some things you should know about the group:

    • Hikes will normally be in the 4 - 10 mile range.

    • We average a speed of 2.5 - 3.0 mph.

    • Each hike posted will indicate the length and difficulty you can expect. Please be considerate of other’s time and only sign up for hikes within your physical ability that you can complete within the time allotted.

    • Please RSVP to events only if you plan on attending. Be sure to update your RSVP if your attendance plans change, and avoid last-minute changes whenever possible.

    • We wait at trail junctions to keep the group together, but as soon as stragglers are within sight the group will start off.

    • There will be hills! You will need to be comfortable walking up and down steep hills.

    • Most hikes are held in our beautiful East Bay Regional Parks with some excursions into State Parks and water district properties such as EBMUD and CCWD. We also occasionally organize urban hikes and trips to other regional park systems.

    • Some hikes, but not all, will be DOG FRIENDLY and allow off-leash hiking. Some hikes will be on-leash and some will not allow dogs at all. Each hike will be clearly marked as either Dogs Off-leash, Dogs On-leash, or No Dogs.

    • We are not professional hike leaders and don't have first-aid  training. Participants must be responsible for their own safety and well-being.

This is a very social group. We like to talk, laugh, and enjoy ourselves while getting our exercise out on the trail. In the Bay Area we are incredibly lucky to be surrounded by hundreds of thousands of acres of open space filled with hiking trails. Join us as we explore and meet new friends!

Casual Hikers of the East Bay

Oakland, CA

Casual Hikers of the East Bay

Casual Hikers of the East Bay is a slower paced group for those who want to get active, have fun, and meet like-minded people. We prefer to move at a more relaxed pace, eat snacks, and soak in the beautiful views of nature. Also, not waking up at the ass-crack of dawn is a plus!

There are so many amazing hiking groups out here with some amazing people, but many of the hikes are way out of our fitness range. This group is especially for those who want to experience the outdoors within the safety of a pack. Whether you're new to hiking or a wilderness expert, there's something here for everyone.

We welcome you to join our group with the understanding that fitness and sports activities are dangerous, and can result in injury or death. By joining our group and participating in our events, you agree to hold the organizers, event hosts, and members harmless from any loss, damage, or liability that may occur during the event or in transit to/from the event.

We're all about new adventures, so if you have any ideas please suggest them! And despite our dislike of suffocating rules, we do have a few that are important to make sure that everyone feels included and stays safe, so be sure to check them out here before joining.

When you attend group events,Implied consent is assumed that you're okay with being photographed without explicit written or oral permission. In case you don't want to be photographed, please feel free to let people know about.
