I was given an estimate for the job after they came out and viewed the damage. Then when they came out and took the stones apart from the post, I was told it was a much bigger job than they thought and they doubled the price of the job.
Response from Company:
We went out to provide a free estimate to a column that had been hit by a car pulling out of the garage. The top of the column cap stones were all knocked loose. They were miter cut and had dye in the mortar. It was a very minimal job and estimate. They mentioned another company said it was to small to estimate or touch. We also wrote on the estimate that this is subject to change upon the discovery of removing the top of the column do to it being hit. The column was real stone and after taking the top off and cleaning up the old mortar, the technician discovered that there was more damage to the natural stone column. He immediately brought it to their attention and told them he could fix it, but it was outside the original $350. He gave them a quote of an addition $300 to rebuild approx 25% of the real stone column. To which they came outside and looked over the proposed change order and bid. They approved of the change order and the repairs were performed for a total of $650.00 After the repairs were done they paid in full and expressed that they were happy with the work. They gave us a 4.5 on quality! They live in a very high end community and and believe that people take advantage of them do to this. We took care of their problem at a very minimal charge and did so in a professional and efficient manner. This is why the other company likely passed on the job. It's very hard for a small company to make it and we pride ourselves on quality, efficiency and offering a fair price regardless of the community you live in.
