GitHub’s role in the developer community means working to secure, maintain, and honor the privacy of tens of millions of developers. This requires partnering with multiple stakeholders and internal customers to build the infrastructure and tools that sustain this mission. As a member of the security org, you will be working alongside your peers in ensuring the privacy of individuals in the community and company; specifically, by envisioning and building out the controls and systems that will allow GitHub to develop as a social network.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a strong team of top engineering talent to focus on tools and changes to our core products to ensure the privacy of our customers and staff
  • Deliver user-friendly tools and efficient automated solutions that enable an understanding of where private information may reside within GitHub
  • Accrue and maintain an understanding of how privacy policy can best be implemented from an engineering standpoint while working to foster a collaborative, creative, and forward looking discipline within the team
  • Serve as a great people leader for team including meeting 1-1 with team members on a regular basis, planning and supporting career development, giving guided performance feedback and serving as a coach and mentor
  • Foster our vision of encouraging good privacy practices internally and externally

Minimum qualifications

  • Prior engineering experience
  • Strong grasp of computer science foundations including data structures and algorithms
  • Solid understanding of large-scale application development
  • Proficiency with data mining technologies and SQL
  • Solid understanding of the trust and safety challenges of online spaces
  • Ability to promote our mission of trust and safety to the GitHub community
