Joel came and did an estimate for us today. I found him to be extremely knowledgeable and delightfully honest. I previously had another company come out and give me an estimate. That company wanted to charge ~$4,000 to remove existing attic insulation and add R38. They also wanted to charge ~$3,000 to add wall insulation. Joel inspected my attic and told me the insulation was actually R30 already and looked to be in good condition. He didn't recommend adding any more. Joel also inspected the walls and it turns out it already had insulation in them. THANK YOU Joel for being so honest and saving us a ton of money! I would highly recommend him (and Bay Valley Insulation) to everyone I know and to others on Yelp. Also, he did write us a very reasonable estimate to boost our insulation to R48 if we wanted to go the extra mile.

Tri County Insulation
Pros: They did a good job minimizing the holes (in exterior stucco) for blown-in insulation in the exterior walls of our house which previously lacked insulation. They also provided documentation (after being requested) of insulation breakdown for utility/tax rebate purposes. Cons: It was challenging trying to communicate and coordinate between our general contractor and Tri-County for our insulation wishes. To be honest, the issues stemmed from not getting clarification from either party in a prompt manner. Perhaps as a subcontractor they felt uncomfortable speaking with us. However, we are in the habit of trying to keep all parties (us, the general contractor, and another subcontractors or third party contractors) in the loop, and usually that succeeded for us. Somewhat disappointed that didn't happen with our experience with Tri-County. Issues: 1. We wanted insulation in all new interior walls, but only some got insulated. 2. We wanted rollable fiberglass instead of blow-in insulation in the attic. 3. Informing us as to the actual schedule of insulation installation. The communication problems are the main reason why we would not recommend Tri-County for insulation work.

I was very pleased with them. Everything was perfect. They came when they were supposed to be here. They cleaned up after themselves. They were polite. I would use them again. They talked me out of the higher grade of insulation, because of the age of the house. In the long run it would not pay off. I really appreciated his honesty about that. They got back to me within 24 hours with an estimate. I think that they were five minutes early.

SDI Insulation is one of the best companies I’ve worked with. Everyone there (i.e. Kris Khoury, Steve Pearce) are professionals, punctual and responsive (to email and phone). However, I think the true test for customer service is when something actually goes wrong. During the wall insulation, one of the interior walls cracked from the blower pressure. Unfortunately, we didn’t notice this until after SDI left our house. When we called to tell them, they promptly sent Steve out to take pictures and schedule the dry wall contractor and painting contractor to come out to fix it. Finally, they were also very helpful about sending us all the necessary documentation to claim the PGand E rebate and the federal tax credits.

My experience with Univeral Insulation has been positive. Jim came to my house and thoroughly described the work to be done. The workers arrived on time,reviewed the work layout, and proceeded to drill the holes and install the insulation. When they found that a cable TV plate covering an opening in the wall had come loose and insulation had started to blow in the house, they immediately cleaned up the carpet, and offered to vacuum the rest of the carpet. It turns out that part of my walls had fiberglass insulation in them (unbeknownst to me), and they promptly adjusted the bill to account for the areas they couldn't fill. The workers were quite professional and courteous. I recommend them to others.

Recent Review: I was happy with the job that was done. It provides insulation plus a vapor barrier. He put in a radiant barrier. It looks almost like tinfoil. They crawled around under the house installing it. It insulates better then conventional insulation. My house is warmer when it is cool and cooler when warm.

Recent Review: Joel came to my house on time. He confirmed that the ceiling insulation is R-30. It works fine in this area. Instead of adding floor insulation, he recommended adding forced air circulation to equalize the first floor and the second. In our case, insulating floor is not cost effective.
