Dan Weber did a great job finishing our basement with a bedroom, bathroom and family room. I had never done a project this big and Dan and his team thought of everything - from the bid/design to the finished project I couldn't have asked for more. They thought of things I never would have considered that enhanced the finished project. Also, there was great communication throughout the project - they arrived when they said they would or they let me know right away if there was any change - and they cleaned up after themselves. Any time I had a question Dan would respond with an answer very quickly. I will definitely hire them again for my next project.

When we started to accept bids for our basement build out, Bill McBeng of Remodeling Plus stood out from the crowd. Not only was he responsive to our request, but Bill freely offered years of experience and guidance as we collaborated and mapped out the details of the project. Bill’s demeanor and confidence really put us at ease. His knowledge, attentive nature and flexibility were paramount to our decision to select Remodeling Plus as our primary construction company. As it turns out, Bill’s estimated labor and materials quote was VERY accurate and tracked extremely close to actual expenditures. Any deviation from the quote occurred because of options or upgrades that we chose along the way. Bill kept us up to date throughout the entire construction cycle and constantly consulted us as the project progressed. Bill’s construction knowledge and experience really showed all throughout the project and the quality of the finished product far exceeded our expectations! From framing and insulation, drywall, cabinets and vanities, painting, tiling, doors and bath tub installations, Bill McBeng really knows his stuff! He is truly honest, hardworking, reliable and respectful. Bill McBeng was as blessing to us. It is difficult to put into words just how pleased we are with the results! Aptitude Construction LLC
Finished in timely manner. Issues with one employee, not owner. But, owner placed way too much confidence on said employee who blatantly lied and was difficult when owner not around. Owner was great with thinking outside the box to meet our needs and unusually arranged basement layout we had to work with. Overall we're happy to have done though after a few years there are paint issues in two areas. Would consider re-hiring owner.

J-PRO Construction LLC
Overall, we are very pleased with the work that J-Pro did to finish our basement. We had a few cheaper bids to choose from, but the professionalism and attention to detail were ultimately what led us to select J-Pro. Now that the work is complete, we couldn't be happier with our choice! Mike was very informative and we always knew when to expect workers to be at the house. We had several questions along the way and he was always quick to respond and thorough in his explanations. The two Jim's and any subcontractors that were brought in were all very friendly and happy to help out with our dogs during the day. Mike also made sure to finish the job in time for our vacation. As far as the actual work, we had drywall up on most of the walls from the previous owner but still we needed a ceiling and carpet installed. The first thing we had them do was install some utility shelving in the laundry room so that we could organize and store all our stuff. Next, J-Pro framed the remaining walls, worked with an electrician to install new lighting, outlets and switches, prepared the ceiling for drywall, and installed new windows. Subcontractors were then brought in for the drywall and we were amazed at how quickly the space was transformed. At that point, we did the painting ourselves. The next steps were installing a drop ceiling in one room, new baseboard, and a couple of new doors. Finally, the carpet was installed to complete the job. J-Pro handled all of the permits and inspections. The job took around 7 weeks to complete, but two of those were us painting. J-Pro did a fantastic job and we will definitely know who to call for our next project!

LU Design Build
We met with LU Design to finish approximately 1100 sq. ft in our basement on October 25, 2019. We provided detailed drawings of the proposed design and highlighted the expensive items that were “must-have” on our list including enlarging 2 windows for proper egress in the bedroom and living space, extensive plumbing work for a full bathroom, kitchen and moving sewer stack. We spent over 2 hours discussing the details and were provided a ballpark estimate of $80,000. We signed the agreement and paid $4,000 based on this mutual understanding. While we provided detailed architectural drawings, we were open to hearing any ideas for the space that could enhance the use and provide a separate workout area. We received several iterations with suggested modifications to the original, many of which were absurd (for example, one such suggestion moved the bedroom and provided an egress window that would have been located under the garage). We also received a number of finish suggestions to choose from which also lacked attention to detail (proposing light fixtures and ceiling fans where there was ductwork / low ceiling height). There was a concerning lack of attention to detail on these many items (which were available in the drawings provided up front). With no mention of the budget during this process, on December 6, 2019 we finally received an estimated cost of $140,000. We were also provided 2 cheaper options which reduced the finished space to 850 and 950 sq. ft. and eliminated all of the must-haves, including pluming and egress, for a budget of $80,000 and $100,000, respectively. We made no scope changes from the original ask and LU was unable to articulate anything, other than they “messed up”, to explain the $60,000 or 75% increase. We requested a refund of the $4,000 payment as the basis for this agreement was false and we did not receive anything of value. LU Design offered a $1,000 refund as they “had spent time on the project”. We have not received any refund to date.

Striking Renovations
Striking Renovations provided a complete range of services: design to final finishing. The new home that we purchased did not have a finished basement. We interviewed 3 different companies and were most impressed with Striking's approach plus talking to past customers. We added a bedroom, full bathroom and a family entertainment area with a wetbar. They worked with us to develop the design/plan, great collaboration. We had to have an emergency egress window in the bedroom which requred cutting into the basement wall. They brought in a specialist that was able to cut the hole and install the new window in several hours. Done quick and clean. Once the work began, they stayed with it thru final inspection.Tthe crew was on time and cleaned up at the end of the day. There were a couple of design changes on the fly and Billy was able to accommodate these. John, Billy and Ryan were a real pleasure to work with. We are very pleased with the fit and finish.

Recent Review: Kieth Liston visited the house multiple times and also met with me near my office (whatever was the most convenient for me at the time) after I contacted the company after reading other reviews on Angie's List regarding additions. He was always punctual and prompt with responses to emails, and after a few meetings and visits, quickly had a budget estimate put together for the project. After comparing Liston's estimate to other contractors' and more meetings to make sure we were on the same page, we chose Liston Construction to perform the work. It took a few weeks to get the first design architectural drawings, but the design drawings were included in Liston's price, which I found valuable, as most other general contractors do not include architectural or design services. Once we agreed on the basic design, further detailed revisions were made to the drawings fairly quickly, and Keith took care of obtaining the necessary permits. Liston's foundation subcontractor broke ground at the beginning of October '09, but that month was one of the rainiest on record...so in actuality, we consider construction to have started early Nov 09. Liston and the subcontractors worked throughout the entire winter, minus only about 3 weeks total (due to weather conditions and utility company delays, no fault of Liston Constr.), and the additon was substantially complete by late March '10. Throughout the entire process, Keith was extremely accessible via email, text message, and phone, and didn't seem to mind the occasional contact on weekends and evenings, or even when he was out of town. He was always very friendly and down-to-earth, yet very knowledgeable and ready to answer our questions. The finished product is solidly constructed, never a shortcut taken; quality of workmanship is top-notch and matched the existing house very well, inside and out. One nice surprise: the company not only hired a cleaning service to clean the finished addition, they cleaned the entire house! And finally, Keith and his subs were perfectly willing to come back and not only correct a very few minor issues, but do a little extra trim work here and there, where it made sense, at no extra cost to us. We very highly recommend Liston Construction for anyone looking for house addition and remodeling work.
