Philip was able to replace rotted boards and substructure of our deck. It is again solid and looks really good. He also designed and constructed a wooden rail with step rails around our front porch which is a great addition to our porch and safety walking up and down our front stairs. Prices were very reasonable was work was completed in a timely manner.

Granite Bay House Doctor

This is the second time I've hired Brent Brandolino, Granite Bay House Doctor. So, already that says something positive. He came out to the house to give me an estimate on building a new section of front porch railing. We agreed on the scope of work and set up a date and time for the work to be completed. I had taken out a sidewalk and steps to the front porch that led to a very busy street that no one could use. There was already a second sidewalk and set of steps from the driveway to the same porch and front door. Brent arrived at the agreed upon time and day, took measurements, conferred with me about a couple of items and picked up the wood he needed to complete the project. He not only did a beautiful job, he'd determined that the rails on the existing 5 feet of railing were incrementally smaller distances apart and duplicated that effect on the section he built. That way, the eye wouldn't notice a difference in how it looked. I was impressed. Cleanup was well done. The railing looks great and is exactly what i wanted. I will definitely hire him again to do work at my house.

His service provided was PERFECT and his text were so thorough re what he was going to do! Since about July we have been communicating. He adjusted the door on the back gate immediately, PERFECT! Then I didn't hear from him for awhile, after he scraped off some of the paint on the interior hand rails; however he contacted me several weeks later and explained he had a medical issue that need to be addressed. Anyway, once healthy again, he consulted with Kelly Moore, removed the caked on paint on the stairwell handrails by belt sanding outside and hand scraping the inside and oiled the handrails to seal and waterproof them. Doing this now will repel the dirt, the handrails won't peel, chip and are easy to clean. He also patched the holes where one rail was removed. Presently he is determining what paint color matches the hallway.

Dave Harden Construction

Dave called me back right away and provided a reasonable estimate for the work performed. After providing the estimate, he came back a few days later to do the work. He was very friendly and personable. He came at the time he said he would be here. The work took a little longer than he expected. The railing and the gate look wonderful! He and his brother did an excellent job. They cleaned up everything after they were done and hauled away old materials. They were very professional.

Igor first impressed me at the time of the estimate. He inspected each area of repair carefully and took pictures. On the work day he and his coworker arrived promptly at 8:30 am. They spliced in new ends to four barge rafters and replaced another short barge rafter entirely. They repaired holes in stucco where a porch railing had been inserted. They replaced two porch support posts which had dry rot at the bottom. The new posts were placed on brackets so that water could run underneath them in the future. All the trim on the two posts was replaced as well as on two others. All new wood was primed, and joints were caulked. The quality of workmanship is excellent. All the joints are smooth and tight. All this work was finished within one day.

Steve built new steps with a handrail. The old steps were so small and steep we had to turn sideways to go from kitchen to garage. Now the new steps are per required specs, very solid, with easy access.

I was very pleased with the responsiveness, work eithic, price and quality of work. I had a real hard time finding somebody to fix the wobbly rail because the job was so small. But Randy (I think it was his name), the son, came in and even had to run to a Home Depot for parts and only charged me $75. Somebody else would probably try to reap us off just because we live in Granite Bay. I am very impressed. Thank you guys. Will think of you for future projects.

Started out really well. Responded quickly. Came to site promptly and on time. Submitted quote by the next day and he said he would be back with brochures for railing and carpet as soon as he could but I haven't heard from him since (about 10 days ago). So that's all I have to report at this time. Just waiting.

Recent Review: Jeff did an outstanding job. When I initially called him and came out promptly and gave me an estimate. His estimate was several thousand dollars less than the 2nd bid I got from another deck contractor. He started the demolition and replacement work promptly. This was a very large job so it did take over 2 weeks to complete, but his guys were on the job every day from 7 am- 3 pm. Jeff came up with great design ideas for us and was very accommodating when I asked for a couple of small changes. The decks look absolutely beautiful and we couldn't be more pleased.

Recent Review: I have filed an complaint against Brock Heath from Heath Stairworks with the State Licensing Board against and BBB. I hired him for a handrail installation in our home. I stated from the very beginning that I did not want any red tones in the stain and I have it in writing. I even met with him to choose the color, a walnut shade. The day the railing was installed I was at work and my husband was able to work from home so someone would be there. The installer, Russ, showed up with the wrong post and after my husband told him he didn't like it, he called Brock. A few minutes later, Brock called my husband and tried to convince him to keep it but my husband said no. Russ then left for a few hours to get the one I had chosen. Later that day, before applying the stain he showed it to my husband. My husband said it was very dark and had reddish tones so Russ said he would lighten it. After that, he showed my husband a stain sample and insisted that after lightening it, he had gotten the color I had chosen with Brock. No alternative was offered. My husband, who, was not involved in the decision making process and was only home to open the door, was under the impression that they were professionals and had picked everything out with me, agreed. I got home around 7.00 pm and Russ was still there. Since he showed up with the wrong post and took almost 2 hours to get a new one, got off to a late start and was still there. When I saw the railing, my first reaction was that I loved it. Russ did a good job. I asked about the color and he said that the wood had taken the stain that way and to see how it looked the next day once it was dried. I sent Brock an email saying that we were happy with the work Russ had done. The next morning when I got up I realized that the stain was red!! I immediately took pictures and sent them to Brock. On my way to work I called him and what I encountered was unbelievable. Brock said that the color I picked out was Mahogany. I told him that there was NO way I would pick that color because it has red tones and that I picked a walnut shade. The conversation only got worse from there. Brock blamed me and threatened to put a lien on my property and send me to collections if I didn't pay him. At that point, all I wanted to know was what my options were to fix it. Brock offered nothing and was a complete BULLY sending me several threatening emails. When I asked him why he had shown me stain samples with red tones when I had indicated in writing that I didn't want, his answer was that "It is not Heath Stairworks' responsibility to interpret "red" the same way you do" I am beyond appalled with Brock's behavior. I tried to reach an agreement with him and even offered to split the cost to have it re-stained and his answer was no. We have just paid a lot of money for something we are not happy with and have been blamed, threatened and bullied by Brock Heath. I'm sure that there are many great handrail installers out there, please keep our story in mind when considering Heath Stairworks.

Business Description: I learned my craft the old-fashioned way, from the bottom up. I started as a teenager, literally digging ditches and hauling supplies. I worked into roofing and rough framing. Through the years, I was able to be trained in carpentry, drywall, painting, plumbing, electrical, and even steel. Eventually, I spent several years working for a local steel fabricator as a project coordinator, where I worked on portions of the Lincoln Plaza and Sacramento Light-Rail projects. In 1990, I began working on roof beams under a now retired general contractor. Finally, I went to a trade a school and earned my General Building Contractor's License in 1995. I've specialized in all-things-roof-beam ever since, even receiving a Patent (opens new window) in 2002 for inventing a tool accessory that made working at heights, i.e. roof beam work, safer. The name "The Beam Guy" was bestowed on me by a beam restoration client who began referring me to friends as The Beam Guy.
