Support » Fixing WordPress » Pasting doesn’t work

  • I have a Mac with Snow Leopard. I thought it was fine with Wordpess. After 8 months, I find that several things don’t work. Clarification; I haven’t made a single page in 8 months. WordPress is so complicated … ðŸ™

Well, I have Chrome 49 and Firefox 48. With both, I’m having trouble pasting text to Gutenberg. Shortly after, I discover the same problem on Rank Math, when I paste the text on the snippet. I hope I have support, despite the old operating system.

I don’t know anything about Macs, but the browsers you mentioned are very old.
Here is the official browser support page: https://make.wordpress.org/core/handbook/best-practices/browser-support/
This mostly has to do with styles, and copy/paste should be unaffected, but if there are Javascript errors in the old browser, then all the scripts stop running so there could be a lot of things affected that rely on scripts (the entire editor is in Javascript).

I understand that I have an old Mac, but I have doubts about pasting. This functionality should be “basic” even for systems much older than mine.

Clarification; paste works, but then problems arise. In fact, I only discovered this problem after 8 months. I have never worked long on the creation of the pages. I have focused too much on the menu. It was better to install a menu plugin first … It may also be that the paste problem has arisen with a new WordPress update.

There is no such thing. This is an open source project and we are all volunteers.

The paste functionality is part of the browser and operating system, not WordPress. However, WordPress could have a script that parses the pasted text and behave in different ways depending on the content (there is special handling for Word format or for blocks). Again, if you are in such an old browser, the modern syntax for the editor scripts could cause an error, making all scripts not run.
The reason we have a statement about browser support is that we can then say “Please update to a modern browser and we’ll fix whatever problems you find.”
The older browsers truly are not supported.

I get it. I’m asking for compatibility whoever is able to do this. Having to rewrite the whole text by hand is a double job. This browser is the newest I can afford or I would have taken a futuristic pc. 🙂 Here the paste option works xD.
