Houston Gas Stove Repair

One burner switch on my gas stove top went out. I contacted Bear Creek Appliances by e-mail through Angie's List and had a response within two hours and an appointment set the next day. The repairman arrived on time, checked out the stove top, showed me what was wrong and explained what he needed to do. He called to place an order for the part and returned the the following week to replace the part. I wish all of my repair services were as punctual, courteous and qualified as Bear Creek.

The repair price quoted on phone before I asked them to come over was reasonable and within the range found on the web. However, the quote provided by service personal was twice the lower range. Called the service number to ask for the discrepancy. Got a nonsensical statement that the price was for a part (The OEM part cost a lot lower than the difference). However, after you pay 60 dollars for the quote there is little you can do. And did not have time to call another company. The work performed was okay. Giving them a lower rating because of the higher price. There are a lot of other appliance repair companies.

Very well. And while he was there, he looked at my wine cooler as well. Could not be fixed due to the lack of available parts (Out of service) but at least I know what I need to do next to replace. it.

I have never had Andy to my house for the simple reason that he has the most integrity of any repair person I have ever known. This is the second time Andy has been kind enough to tell me how to fix a problem myself. The first time was when my dryer wasn't drying -told me to clean the 'exhaust' tube (not sure what it's called)- and this time my gas stove top wasn't igniting. After checking the breakers, he asked me to see if it was plugged in. Very doubtful that it was unplugged since there is no reason to get into the cabinet underneath, I looked, and I'll be darned if it wasn't unplugged. He was not at all patronizing nor did he laugh at me for such a silly thing not to have checked. Andy could have easily made money on both instances. This page states that more weight is given to a review when work is done. It's a shame we can't quantify integrity. In any case, he certainly has a client for life; though at this rate, I'm unsure if it will ever be profitable for him.

I feel it only fair that since I graded this company an "F" for a prior experience, I grade it again for the most recent experience. We had a burner go out on our gas stove and since we were still covered by an AHS home warranty, we called them. They sent Choice out again. This time, however, the experience was much better. They "same" service guy came out again and was even a bit early. He diagnosed the problem and had to order parts. The parts arrived early and he came back out early (and was on-time again!) He not only replaced the broken burner valve but ALL the valves as well. During the repair a small pipe broke so he had to order a new pipe and come back out to install it (all but one of the burners worked until then though). He promptly returned in a couple of days, fixed the pipe and we basically have a new stove top from just $60. It was an excellent service experience all in all.

After having new flooring installed (they had to remove the appliances to do the flooring), we were having problems with our dishwasher not working properly and a strong odor of gas from the stove when in use. Mark Hall arrived within the service window we had set to do the repairs. The floor men had kinked the water hose to the dishwasher when they re-installed it. Mark removed and straightened the hose to prevent this from happening again in the future. He used a gas leak detector and thoroughly checked the stove for leaks. No leaks were detected. We decided the smell of gas was likely due to a reaction between the gas flame and the remaining fumes of paint/glues and other chemicals used in the house over the last several days. (The smell had been strongest immediately following all the repairs we had done and has been diminishing each day as we have been trying to air the house out). Mr.Hall was very neat and professional. I would use this company again.

He showed up on time. Very professional. Found this issue within minutes and quickly rplace the broke parts. He even replace the light bulb at no cost. Also gave me advice on other appliances. Nice he was able to have the parts when he showed up.

They got in contact to schedule appointment. However they were not able o schedule one a week later, only for next day. Said will confirm the day I need the service s2days before. When I called, kept getting voicemail. Went with someone else who could meet my required schedule date instead.

Hired company to repair stove. Replaced parts. Parts stopped working and when I called they said they did not need to come out to see it as it would go away when it dried out. Called again and they said they only guarantee their work for three months and that it was past the three month period. Also said they no longer service appliance and I should look elsewhere.

Mr. James was very polite and professional. He took time to explain each step of his troubleshooting and diagnosis process. His findings were not 100% conclusive; but he was very honest and upfront and explained the situation very clearly. Fortunately, his diagnosis turned out to be accurate and my cooktop is working properly again.
