Gutenberg Blocks CPTified / Adding Voice to Your WordPress Website

*** Gutenberg Blocks CPTified ***
Blocks provide a great way to give users a rich editing experience, but oftentimes require making compromises of how that data is stored. In this talk, we’ll go over how we can create blocks that save their data to Custom Post Types instead of block attributes. After a block has been CPTified we can then access its data in all sorts of structured ways to build features like custom archives.
PRESENTED BY: Timothy Jacobs

*** Adding Voice to Your WordPress Website ***
The JavaScript API for speech synthesis works on the most popular browsers. Larry will describe his WordPress plugin, ListenUp, which can be used for speaking post elements such as the post excerpt or the description of an image.

Hear how Larry developed the concept of this plugin, starting with a "Voice Synthesis Playground" in JavaScript and HTML, to writing a shortcode function, to hacking a plugin together.

Time permitting, Larry will introduce the active Voice Community and the various products, services and organizations working to advance Voice and conversational computing.
PRESENTED BY: Larry Aronson

Introduction to theme.json - A Five Day Lunch & Learn Series

PLEASE READ TO THE END BEFORE REGISTERING
This is a 5-day workshop. You will be registering at the link below, not on meetup.com
============================
As a first step toward a full Global Styles and Full Site Editing experience, a theme.json file in your active theme offers a simple way to register presets for things like colors and font-sizes as well as default values for common block styles. An understanding of theme.json is a must-have skill for anyone who creates WordPress themes.

Join Daisy Olsen for a five-day lunch & learn style workshop to explore what you can accomplish with any theme and the new theme.json file support included in WordPress 5.8.

The course will consist of online instructional materials along with five live 30-minute daily video chats to discuss the content as a group. If you would like to participate in this workshop please register here:

REGISTER:

Schedule: August 23-27
Time: 12:30-1:00pm each day

To get the most out of this experience please plan to attend all five of the live calls.

Call information will be provided to those registered for the workshop prior to the first call.

Note: This will be an early experimental version of this workshop. Once the content has been refined the workshop will be published on the learn.wordpress.org site once it’s been refined.
