Mike was fantastic and proved himself to be MacGyver-like with the excellent handyman services he provided for us (we purchased an Angie's List "Big Deal" delivering 3 hours of handyman services for $99.) First up was the vented exhaust fan located in our kitchen ceiling. The old (40 year old original?) fan had stopped working, so I purchased a replacement fan I thought (hoped) would fit. Mike quickly determined that, while the fan unit itself would fit in the existing mount, it wasn't quite wide enough... Thankfully, Mike then slipped into MacGyver mode and took a piece of metal he had, cut it to size and drilled 2 holes to allow it to function as a bracket "extender"....which worked perfectly. New fan unit installed and works perfectly (we can't wait to cook bacon again without smoking up the entire house!) Next was a timer switch for the ceiling exhaust fan in our ensuite bathroom. We know we're supposed to run the fan for awhile after taking a shower, but we always end up having to turn it off sooner than we should (as we head downstairs and don't want to forget that it's running.) So I purchased a timer switch that would let us turn the fan on and have it automatically run then turn off after 20-30-40 minutes. Mike quickly isolated the correct breaker controlling the power to our bathroom, swapped in the timer switch and voila: working like a charm. Our ensuite shower was starting to look pretty grimey along the edges of the shower pad, so we had Mike strip off all the old caulking, clean all the years of built-up grime away (which he did using good ol' elbow grease - no spray-on chemicals, Mike got down on his hands and knees and scrubbed it all clean.) He then put in all new caulking along all the seams of our shower pad, and in the spots between tiles that had started to split apart. I'm so excited: it's like a brand new shower! Finally, the gate leading to our backyard had started to sag/tilt to one side, causing it to scrape on the ground when opened, not latch correctly, and even started to pull out the supporting wood board on the house that the gate latch was connected to. Mike did a number on everything: tightening up the supporting steel support wire we already had in place (to give extra strength to the gate), nailing up the wood board on the house to ensure it's fastened tightly to the house and adjusted the gate latch to properly catch and latch when closing the gate. Mike was fantastic: friendly, professional, explained everything along the way, and went above and beyond to get the work done (again: as far as I'm concerned, his name is MacGyver and not Mike.) He's the only handyman we'll be using from now on and I highly recommend him!
