Courage our network

Take Action

Wondering how you can help Courage? There are several things you can do to support our existing beneficiaries, prepare for future truthtellers and cultivate better security practices online. No donation is too small, no action is meaningless. Here’s how you can make a difference:

Donate

Donating is the easiest, fastest and most tangible way you can support Courage now. We’re establishing a defence fund that will serve long-term as a safety net for whistleblowers in peril, present and future. We need to finance legal teams, as persecuted sources often can’t afford to pay their own court costs and legal defence against state prosecutions can amount to many hundreds of thousands of dollars. We also need resources to provide websites and campaign teams to publicise the issues whistleblowers have disclosed, advocating across global media and building support networks around the world.

You can also contribute by purchasing Courage merchandise at our shop.

Campaign

The truthtellers supported by Courage have risked life and liberty for what they believe in: the power of the truth, the public’s right to know, a fair and open internet, and freedom from invasive surveillance. Whilst our truthtellers face political persecution and prosecution, we believe it is important to campaign not only for their protection, but for the information they risked so much to reveal.

If you want to find out more about our beneficiaries, please visit NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden’s official support site, and imprisoned hacktivist Jeremy Hammond’s official support site. Courage runs the truthtellers’ official defence funds, raises awareness about their cases and revelations and campaigns for their protection.

There are plenty of ways that you can Take Action for Edward Snowden and Take Action for Jeremy Hammond. If you are working on your own campaign action, we would love to hear from you!

Secure your communication

In an age of mass surveillance, with powerful governments and private intelligence firms collecting as much of your data as they can, it’s wise for everyone to protect the privacy of their electronic communications. No services are guaranteed to be NSA-proof – and Courage does not endorse or guarantee the safety of particular applications – but you can use this guide to find resources that help you to email and chat confidentially, and browse the internet anonymously.
