We were concerned about lead paint in our home (built in 1948). I called one lead inspection company, but was informed that they did not service owner occupied properties--only rentals. That company recommend LeadTec. I called Leadtec and was put in touch with one of their inspectors. He asked some questions about our property and proceeded to explain that it would be unlikely to find lead paint in the interior of a home built in 1948, but that we could find lead paint on the exterior. He provided a quote for the lead inspection, which included an extra fee for travel. (We're located outside of DC and LeadTec is based in Baltimore). The inspector arrived a few minutes earlier than our appointment time. He was friendly and took the time to answer my questions before proceeding with the inspection. He tested about 10 painted surfaces in each room, plus on the exterior of the house. At the end of his inspection, he told me the findings and promised a detailed written report within a few days. The report arrived about 10 days later (I'm guessing that the delay was partly due to the high mail volume right before Christmas). It outlines the surfaces that were tested in each room and the amount of lead detected in each painted area. It is detailed enough for us to use it to remediate the problem areas. In summary, I've pleased with Leadtec's services. They were professional, prompt, and curtious. I would recommend them to others who are concerned about the possibility of lead paint in their home.
