The service provided by Basements.com was outstanding. I live in California, and the property is in Philadelphia. Coordinating the work was a little tricky because of the time difference and working with my tenant. Larry, the owner, was absolutely great about keeping me in the loop about what was happening and what the next steps were. He called often, and made himself available to answer questions at all hours. He also sent many photos to help me understand what was needed. Also he went the extra mile and took care of some structural repairs that, if not attended to, would have caused the front of the house to sag, and affect the structural integrity of the whole house. I should also mention that I had contacted him a year ago to do repairs, and didn't act on it then. He was very gracious about coming back to do a new assessment, and give advice about the new/deteriorating condition of the basement. I never felt judged for putting off the work when it was first recommended. Later, walls needed to be replaced and he offered to have his team do that, and also finish up by painting everything so it looks brand new. This streamlined the whole process, so I didn't have to find a contractor. My tenant was very appreciative of them doing their best to have as little impact as possible on her lifestyle. So - superior work, excellent communication, thoughtful attention to detail, and, for me, peace of mind knowing the house is structurally sound and there will be no more issues with water coming in. Money well spent!

I called many companies to assess our leaky basement and only found three who would come out to look at it. Universal responded promptly, gave us a quote and scheduled the work within a reasonable period of time. The work went smoothly and was very thorough. Workers were pleasant and efficient. Unfortunately, we still have a very minor leak that is unresolved. Universal responded quickly to this news and made another repair. The minor leak is still there and may require a bigger fix. We're assessing next steps now.

Great! I would like to say what a great job McCartney did painting the exterior of our house. I had initially worked with Kieron McCartney through a referral for a water leak. Kieron provided an estimate for a waterproofing and painting a section of our house to deal with the water issues. My first impression was Kieron has many years of experience in waterproofing and painting so we worked with him for that issue. We were so happy with working with Kieron and his Guillermo (his foreman) that we worked with McCartney painting to paint the remainder of our house exterior. We were very happy with working with both Kieron and Guillermo (and the rest of the crew) that we want to say how pleased we were with the way the job turned out. I would recommend (and would work with again) McCartney painting for any painting or waterproofing issues. They are easy to work, do great work, and stand by their work.

They were cooperative with me and gave me a final price. I haven't decided yet if I'm going to be doing the project, but they seem reputable and so I will consider them.

They sent 3 guys out that started the work, and the last 2 guys that came out did a great job. So far things have been good.

Herb Fry Waterproofing Systems did a good and quick job with their estimate. However, we decided to go with a different company based on other reviews on Angie's List.

Thompson's Basement Waterproofing was very professional. They did work on our second home while we were not there and they were able to handle this very well. They did a good job and cleaned up very well after the job was over.

Paul and his crew were extremely professional and really did outstanding quality work. They took the time to design the right solution for our needs and explained what they were doing every step of the way. The crew was punctual, worked weekends when needed, and was very pleasant to deal with. I would definitely hire them again. Price was in the middle of the bids I got but I can't imagine the work being done any better.

Our two-story stucco house in south Bernal Hights was last painted in 2000, and was looking rather drab. But, great pixels were not our main concern. Most importantly, we were looking to waterproof, as much as possible, our windows and stucco. We had five south-facing leaking windows that were of special concern. Out of three estimates, we chose McCartney Painting mainly because owner Kieron McCartney was the most keen and knowledgeable about techniques to secure the house against the elements. Elastomeric painting (8-mm thick coating, I recall), three-point sealing, and Sika Flex caulking between exterior wall and concrete intersections were some of his applied techniques appropriate to the needs of stucco. Also, McCartney offered a senior discount (proof positive we look our age) without our asking, making his quote the lowest bid. Another company did not offer elastomeric paints at all. The experience with McCartney Painting was very positive. Kieron surveyed our home within a week of bid request, submitted an estimate and contract the following week, and placed us into his busy schedule. Power washing, patching the many stucco cracks (some deep), caulking and sealing the windows and four door frames, the house painting itself, and the ironwork staining and painting all went smoothly and efficiently. His crew was very punctual, courteous, and helpful with trim paint recommendations. They cleaned up after work each day. Kieron, a calm person with which to work and collaborate, was very responsive to any concerns we brought up. The result looks great, and inspired some neighbors to also paint their houses. McCartney Painting is well worth your consideration.

Repainting 3 out of the 4 sides of my hundred year old San Francisco Victorian is the biggest home improvement project I've done. It needed scaffolding, waterproofing, and lead protection measures. This was basically a root canal on my house. I looked forward to it the same way I would a root canal on my teeth. I'm glad I found McCartney. From speaking with Kieron, it was obvious that he is an experienced painter and waterproofer, and that I could trust his judgment and his expertise. Kieron and his crew did a great job painting my place. They were always on time, cleaned up well, were responsive to my questions and feedback about the job, and were very easy to work with. They were conscientious and meticulous. They were also great with my neighbors. Bonus: they finished the job faster than expected. I wouldn't hesitate to hire Kieron and his crew again. But thanks to the job they did, I don't think I'll have to for quite some time.

Other contractors often send out a chatty salesman to mainly pitch whatever their standard package is. Unlike them, Mr. Carty from the start was clearly a hands-on guy and he immediately got serious about figuring out where the sources of our particular flooding problem were. Even as he developed a plan to solve the problem, he considered all potential trouble spots. He and his crew worked efficiently, accommodated the tenants regarding the noise level, and cleaned everything up very nicely. So far, there has been no flooding from the rains in December, so it looks like his work was successful.

Barry has a very freindly personality, and he performed the actual work, but halfway through the job he said he had 'money problems' and asked me to pay him the full amount even though work wasn't complete. I had him sign an ammended contract for a warantee and some additional treatments and let him proceed with the work. I didn't like the fact that he asked for money before the work was complete. He eventually finished the work, but very, very rarely returned my calls. What SHOULD have taken days took weeks. Part of the reason was the weather, but even when there were good days, he didn't always come out as he said he would (missing a lot of appointments). Unfortunately, since the work has been complete, I still haven't gotten my warantee certificate and have been calling him for it for 3 weeks. I am now turning the matter over to the BBB since I don't have the warantee certificate and the drywallers are starting today.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It was okay. I used them a month after I purchased the deal. There was an additional charge. The work was good quality. They took forever to get back to me but once they did the job, it was fine.

Val was very prompt and courteous. The work that his helpers performed was shoddy and a bit careless (e. g. glued pipe that shouldn't have been glued) but Val's work was very good. I was not happy that he didn't bring all the tools necessary to do work and ended up using my tools.

They were excellent. I will be using them again for my sump pump maintenance. The owner himself came out to fully examine our basement. I was very impressed by their professionalism and communication. I appreciated their willingness provide discounts for me as their customer. They were timely and kept us up-to-date on the work. They demonstrated a particular expertise in working around our existing radon mitigation system.They also gave me a lifetime guarantee, which is transferrable upon sale of the house. I would like to personally thank Wayne and Bill for their courtesy and excellent service. The price was reasonable considering we have a 3500 sq ft house and this was just 1/3 the price of our previous waterproofing system that failed on us. I have total confidence in this product.

I am always so impressed with this company with each interaction I have. Lisa is fantastic and makes you feel like a long time friend and valuable customer, the owner Adam is very professional, honest and personable. I completely trust and admire both the company and the staff. Adam came and surveyed the damage, provided some valuable advice and promised to have a repair estimate in the mail. As promised, estimate arrived and will complete the work soon.

Rafael Gamez, the general contractor, is absolutely first-rate. Personable, reliable, reasonable, professional regarding all types of home remodeling, repair, roofing, and interior and exterior painting for our small 100+ yr. old Georgetown house. Rafael formerly operated under the name of his brother, Omar Construction (also rated separately in 2012). His team is extremely professional and timely. They show up promptly, even work nights and weekends to finish jobs on time. Overall our new kitchen, using IKEA cabinets, required extensive demo work and careful refitting, customization of cabinets, crown molding, trim, etc. It's a masterpiece, admired by family, friends, neighbors. And it was done for MUCH less than IKEA's own installers quoted for the job. Subsequently, facing slow leaking, seepage in walls at exterior rear corner of house--from basement to roof--we had Rafael repair and resurface our roof, repoint all exterior brick work where leaking was observed, waterproof and repaint entire house and front trim. When this work failed to stop water seepage, Rafael removed interior plaster, repaired and repointed interior brick walls where seepage was still observed, plastered with waterproof cements, replastered and repainted interior walls. He was tireless and meticulous in following up to measure moisture content of walls and ensure all seepage was stopped--ultimately solving a problem that had plagued previous owners of the house for decades and which no other contractor had been able to solve. We also had Rafael's team install attic access folding stairway and insulate and install flooring in our attic crawl space. His team also built custom cabinets to match our IKEA kitchen for our washer dryer, a job that, due to age and tight spaces of our old house, proved more difficult than planned. Rafael had his craftsmen return several times to get the job done right, tireless until we were completely satisfied with the result. Regardless of extra time required, he honored his original price. All jobs, plus other odds and ends, were done extremely well and at reasonable prices over a period of several years. He has good men who he treats well and who like working for him. They always seal off working areas and clean up after every day's work and at the end of any job. His sister also provides total housecleaning services when required after particularly dirty or dusty jobs. He has done major total home remodeling, completely gutting interiors, building additions, etc., for other clients in Washington, DC and suburban Virginia and Maryland.

ARC Restoration & Waterproofing Inc. are supposed to be experts in water abatement. They charged me almost $7000.00 for a leak in one of our bedrooms, because they wanted to excavate below our foundation level. Two days worth of work for $7,000.00? I had to get them to lower the bill. I told them there was no way I was going to pay $7,000.00. Their materials consists of gravel and plastic tubing. That is not $7,000.00. The leak was back the next winter. We have a friend who does work like this really quickly opened a hole in the wall, went up on the roof with the hose and watched the water drip right down from the roof to the spot that was leaking. The leak had nothing to do with the drainage. But now we have two sides of the house that have beautiful french drains that we never needed to install. The people from ARC assumed the leak was coming from the ground up, when in fact, it was coming from above to below. The new person knew within 15 minutes were the water was coming from. They had told me when they did the job that I have a warranty for life and to call him if there's a problem. I called him for months and months when it started leaking again. The guy showed up a Saturday to look at it and b.s. me a little more. It's so discouraging.

Our bathroom was a complete remodel - gutted out completely, old tub, sink, toilet, files, floor removed. New subfloor, sheet rock, waterproofing, tile, install all fixtures, paint, etc. These guys did an awesome job. We have an older house (75+ years) which has settled and nothing is plumb anylonger - very challenging to install tiles, flooring etc. and have it come out looking nice since none of the lines are straight, but they managed to do it. Also found out that the whirlpool tub required a separate power line, which they pulled for us and also reinforced the floor from the basement to make sure adequate structural support existed. They pulled all city permits - almost nothing in the old bathroom was to current code - had to install a ceiling fan, move electrical, move plumbing in order to bring it all up to code. Had to install an access panel in adjoining room to allow access to whirlpool pump for future servicing. As a homeowner, very nice, secure feeling to know everything is now up to code. Just amazing how much had to be done and these guys really impressed me. Got it all done in less time than they quoted - said it would take 2 1/2 weeks, it was done and signed off by the city 1 day shy of two weeks. Very pleased with that - who gets their projects done early!? Incredible work ethic - a 13 hour day was not uncommon if that is what it took to get the job done. They kept us up to date on every step and when problems arose - which of course they did - they worked with us to resolve them and keep the project on track. After sign off and final payment, we found one little oversight (an area had not been adequately caulked) and they were out promptly to fix it. Their price was very good and competitive with others. However, we didn't look any further once we spoke with them as we knew we had the right contractor. Could we have found someone to do it cheaper? Don't know, maybe. But this is where we live and we don't necessarily want the lowest bid - we want the best quality and the best value for our money and we definitely feel we got that. Good job Moran, Sapir, Moty - we will definitely be using you again when new projects arise!

The entire staff of Quality First Basement are courteous, efficient and professional. I don't know if the solution they proposed will solve the water problems(stay tuned for my report next year). But so far I am more than impressed.
