Everlast Construction

I own a home that’s a historic building and they were able to transform my space in just a few short days from old, ugly, and boring to new and modern! They were very accommodating and the quality of their work is very impressive! I had a very specific design in mind and they were able to work with me to achieve it. Gideon was responsive and easy to communicate with, and the team did amazing work on site. They tore down walls installed new cabinets, lighting, rewired electricity, fireplace, opened up the wall to allow space for an addition, a bigger window to add more sunlight and more. Gideon’s professional knowledge and guidance contributed greatly in completing the project to my satisfaction. The house was complete in 4 weeks! I have recommended Everlast Construction to many people already and will continue in doing so.

R E HINSON

I evaluated 3 firms. The two others submitted very detailed quotes that sounded higher than I expected. R E Hinson looked at the project, and gave a straightforward number. It was not that complex a job and he didn't waste a lot of time in paperwork or justification. His quote seemed seasonal. He has over 30 years experience and was highly recommended by the builder I selected and a customer in my neighborhood where he had done work before.

ANDREW MORRALL ARCHITECT
5.0
We wanted to modernize our 1941 year old Sausalito home, a house that had had two minor remodels over the years. After interviewing several Architects we hired Andy Morrall as our Architect for our project, which included remodeling, plus an addition. We made the right choice and were rewarded with a Design beyond our expectations, and meeting our criteria. Andy's honesty and willingness to share his professional opinion gained our trust early in the process. My husband and I were very impressed not only with Andy's communication ability, but also with his quick grasp of what we wanted. Plus, his enthusiasm for the project was unmatched, constantly tapping into his creativity as an Architect to find solutions. Andy began his thorough Design process with us by listening to our wish list. He then interpreted and offered solutions that displayed a level of creativity we didn't expect, integrating our remodel seamlessly into our older home. Also gaining our trust was Andy's consistent level of work and high level of technical expertise. There were many details that he offered that we had not even imagined. Examples include: 1.) Interpreting the open cathedral ceiling in our main Living Space and bringing those details and materials up a notch to make this a feature in the Sitting Area addition; 2.) Listening to our concerns with our Entry and offering a translucent exterior Entry trellis that can be up lit at night; 3.) Tying in the Entry trellis design with the Sitting Room Addition; 4.) Addressing our existing staircase, creating a balconied opening that brings light between the two levels. Additionally and importantly, Andy has been with us every step of the way, gathering preliminary estimates from Contractors with whom he had worked, giving us the opportunity to fit the project to our budget, providing assistance on interior finish selection, doing his homework with the city to ensure our project met the city's planning code, and providing a voluminous set of construction documents to bid and build from. Andy is currently assisting us with the Bid and permit phase of our project and will continue with us throughout the project. Continually, he has worked hard for us, extending well beyond our expectations. We feel confident that because we hired Andy our home will be the modernized home we wanted; one that is exemplify with beautiful Architecture. We enthusiastically recommend Andy Morrall as your Architect.

REBECCA SCHNIER ARCHITECTURE

DESIGNING A HOME CAN BE TRAUMATIC AND THIS WAS THE CASE. THE ARCHITECT DID A GOOD JOB, AND A TIMELY JOB, BUT IN THE END COST MUCH MORE MONEY THAN I ANTICIPATED. THE HOUSE IS SPECTACULAR. TYPICALLY ARCHITECTS COST AROUND 10% FOR SERVICES ALL THE WAY THROUGH CONSTRUCTION AND FINISH SELECTIONS. I STOPPED USING THE ARCHITECT WHEN BUILDING DEPARTMENT APPROVAL WAS OBTAINED BECAUSE OF THE COST INVOLVED.

While polite, architect was and quot;aggressiveand quot; and resistant to our more deliberate approach. We also had an unexpected health-related delay, which resulted in architect terminating agreement, despite our explanation. As a result, we paid for those services rendered, although not near complete. We would not use this architect's services in the future.

JOHN LUM ARCHITECTURE
5.0
We selected John Lum because of the exceptional designs we saw on Houzz. We are exceptionally impressed with the quality of the design, knowledge of various codes, and the materials/surface selection. Bret Walters, our architectural lead, is quite exceptional. He is easy to work with, very talented, and thoughtful about the designs. They've been very flexible about allowing me to source things or meet with the town for the permits in order to minimize the expense (something many architects are not reasonable about overall)l. We are really enjoying this relationship, and are planning to use them again for a larger extension to the house next year.

GoodFellas Construction – Bay Area

The receptionist was professional. She connected me to a manager named Erik. What Erik said made sense, but the way he said it was very condescending. He said that he would be able to give a quote after I get the blueprint prepared by an architect and approved by the city. When I asked him if I could have his company's architect's contact information, he kept saying 'it is not free.' I have always understood that an architect's services are never free. When I explained that I would like the architect's contact information so I could look up his/her reviews, he said in a rude way that he would not give the information. It is probably his company's policy, but he could have said it in a polite way.

ANDREW MORRALL ARCHITECT
5.0
We started working with Andy as the Architect for our project last Summer. Andy presented several design options and was able to come up with some very innovative design concepts for a very challenging existing kitchen Layout. Andy's design for the 3 story addition had some fine detail and provided a very nice Work Out Room, Breakfast Room, Sun Room and Roof Deck. The submittal process proved challenging, since we needed to attain a variance and address some neighborhood opposition to the project. Andy was experienced in drafting the findings for the Variance and responded convincingly to the neighbor's concerns. We were awarded the variance with the design intact. Andy was helpful in the Contractor selection and reviewed and advised us on the awarding of the bid to the Contractor. Andy has been responsive and prompt during the construction process and has been available for site visits and the Contractor's questions. We strongly recommend Andy Morrall, Architect.

THEY WERE GREAT. THEY HAD VERY GOOD IDEAS AND THEY LISTENED TO WHAT OUR NEEDS AND WANTS WERE. I WANTED A FEW THINGS FOR SURE AND THEY MADE IT HAPPEN, EVEN THOUGH IT DID NOT SEEM AS THOUGH IT WOULD FIT IN TO THE DESIGN THEY MADE, IT WORKS FOR US.

Recent Review: We had an exceptional positive experience working with them. Mike Amini, architect, suggested several changes in the main floor that really opened up the house and pointed out the beautiful view we have out the rear of the house. Matt Amini, stuctural engineer, was the Project Manager. He is very much a perfectionist and all of his suggestions were excellent giving us an expert cost vs. benefit opinion based on his experience. They started the house in December, 2009 and finished it in August, 2010. Since they had to almost completely rebuilt the house, we thought that was really fast. They worked continuously and were not always running off to other jobs. Matt responded immediately to any request we had. We also found that all of the subcontractors he hired on the job were incredible craftsmens with close attention to detail. We also worked with a designer on the job which I know can be difficult interacting with contractors, but they worked together to give us the very best end result. This is a family business where they all work cohesively together. No one is pointing fingers at each other if and when mistakes are made - a big advantage of their vertical integration. Obviously, losing our house and everything in it was quite devastating to us (we are in our 60's), but working with the Craftsmen's Guild and their vision for our house really brought us out of our emotional lows. Seeing the vision they had for the house and watching it unfold was really exciting for us! The finished house is really incredible. This would not have happened were it not for the Craftsmens Guild. We are currently landscaping the house and using Matt's cousin, Parviz Emani, from Modern Construction Design, who is also doing a fabulous job! I read one of the other reviews here that was negative and, quite frankly, we experienced NONE of the problems they seemed to have had with the Craftsmens Guild and we worked with them for about 10 months! Even now - after we have given the Craftsmen's Guild our final payment, we are still adding some additional features. We call Matt and he responds immediately to our requests!

Recent Review: Hometech just finished my home remodel. The house was a previous rental property of mine that we have moved into after relocating back to Saratoga. What an amazing transformation! 2 baths, new kitchen/dining flooring, countertop, backsplash and fireplace. I have received so many compliments on how beautiful it all came out.
Team was always so responsive to any questions and/or issues, concerns. The crew of craftsman did great job and kept the job site clean and organized. The design & architect give us lots of great suggestions and helped pick all the finish materials.
Everyone at HomeTech was friendly, knowledgable, and extremely professional I am glad we have found them. I have owned many homes through the years and have worked with number of contractors. HomeTech is easily one of the most professional group I have hired.

Recent Review: Pluses - - Honest and open communication - Pleasant to talk to and work with on a day to day basis - Willing to fix issues identified - The architect Feraru partners with for design build services is fantastic - Willingness to do customized work that goes over and above the norm Minuses - - Although they generally told us up front about the need to order our finishes, this was our first home renovation project so we needed someone who was more adept at helping us with the detailed and long term project planning and forecasting that is necessary for a project this size. So if your project is big like ours was - and if you choose to use them - I would strongly recommend taking on this role yourself or hiring someone to do so. I would often get calls in the middle of the project saying they needed a part, that week, for installation (let's use the example of needing the sinks). However, let's say the sinks had a four week lead time. So we would order the sinks but they would not be there in time for when Feraru's guys were ready to do the work. This resulted in project delays as we did not have the knowledge necessary to know what was needed when and in what order. This is the primary reason why we said we may not use them again because we don't have time to take on this role ourselves. For others, this may not be an issue/concern. - Toward the end of the project, the supplier of a replacement sliding door made an error in the order. Feraru has since reinstalled the correct door but it did take some back and forth and time to resolve. - I found about $8000 in errors on the final invoice. Feraru gave us a credit back for the errors (which was appreciated) but I think this Is similar to the first bullet above about project planning and execution. Just make sure and check the detail of your invoices closely. - Sometimes their quality slipped (perhaps dependent upon the person executing the work?). But to their credit, Feraru would work to fix any quality issues after we identified them.

How much do architects near me cost?

Most architects charge an average of $5,100 to oversee a project. Depending on the scope of work and the responsibilities they will have to carry out, homeowners spend between $2,000 and $8,200.

Architects may charge by the hour or a fixed percentage of the total cost of the project. Hourly rates vary between $60 to $120, while percentage rates of the project vary between 5-20%.

Most of the work the architect carries out is drawing up designs, providing advice on building codes, and helping select contractors for the project. In some cases, architects charge by square footage. This cost is often between $0.75 to $3.50 per square foot of the area being designed.
