People Learning to Increase Happiness and Confidence - NYC

New York, NY

This group has the purpose to help people become happier in their lives by imparting tools for everyday use. We have guest speakers who are successful people from the New York area who have a desire to help. Help is possible just as self betterment is possible. Our motto is "something can be done about it."

Have you ever gotten angry and not known why? Have you hurt a loved one? Do you introvert and become shy for no reason? Are you anxious? Do you want to be more successful or find the perfect relationship? Do you want to improve communication? How is your ability to love?

Happiness is an age old quest. It is elusive but is actually quite real and attainable. Happiness is basically the overcoming of obstacles toward a known goal. There are many tools and methods to help one do this. Our events will help you with:

Effects of past painful experiences

Setting goals in life

Understanding other people

Controlling yours and others' emotions

Finding ways to like people and life more

Creating better relationships and choosing the right friends or partners

The point is, there are things you can learn to increase your happiness, self-confidence and overall well being. This group will teach these tools.

We teach natural, common sense techniques and information to improve life.

The Organizer of this group is a successful artist, business woman and is a volunteer consultant of the Dianetics and Scientology life improvement Center New York.

NYC Museums and Ice Cream

New York, NY

Hey there! It’s summer in the city, so what better way to beat the heat than to check out the museums and ice cream shops NYC has to offer! We all know The Met and MoMA, but there are over 100 museums/historic sites/art experiences across all the boroughs. I’ll aim to visit 1 or 2 a week. The list below is in alphabetical order, not necessarily the order in which we will visit them. All are welcome to join!

**As of July 18, 2021, a non-refundable $2 will be required to sign up for most events. This is to deter no-shows and to help cover organizer fees. Payment must be submitted by noon the day before in order to secure your spot.**

Genuine Friends 50-70+ Long Island Ladies Group

Garden City, NY

WE ARE CLOSED TO NEW MEMBERS

Please be vaccinated to protect us all.

We plan a variety of fun events on LI and beyond - anything from eating to adventure. Do you remember when you were a kid and had friends you could always count on - a friendly face in a crowd of acquaintances? Well, that's what we are about. Genuine friendships with others whom you would love to have to your own home - a group of genuine friends.

Find people whom you are always happy to see - ones who share your interests and who won't cancel at the last minute or be a no show when they have something better to do. The age limits are just a suggestion - if you are a happy, active older person, this is for you too. Please be able to use a computer/android or iphone, and pay by Zelle.

Our events include brunches, book discussions, friendly chat, travel near and far, crafts, adventures, NYC, local theater, gardens, concerts, canasta, keeping fit, even star gazing or anything of interest to you and a few others. Most events take place in Nassau. This group is not suitable for those from mid to eastern Suffolk, Manhattan or Brooklyn.

Places will become available only as people leave the group or are inactive, or no shows at several events. I do remove inactive members on a regular basis to keep the group filled with only women interested in building real friendships. Please understand that not all membership requests are approved.

We do have admission standards. You are welcome to join if you are 50+, if you don't have a pattern of no shows with other groups, are free of drama, and if you can bring a smile to the our next meetup. If you are normal, sane, and secure, you'll get in! Please have a real, recognizable photo of your face when you join, and a valid email address. If you are a cat, puddle or flower, you won't get in. We want to be able to recognize you at an event, and greet you as a friend.

We do post pictures of group events on Meetup and Facebook, so when you join, you are agreeing to be photographed.

Join my other group: http://www.meetup.com/Travel-Friends-Near-and-Far/

Our annual dues are $20 per year collected annually (year ends on April 14), paid at your first meetup, or by Zelle. Renewals are $20, paid by April 14.

To maintain your membership, you must attend at least one event every two months.

Freidom: Community and Social Support for the Frei

New York, NY

Welcome to Freidom!

Based in New York, with a presence across a dozen cities in the US and Canada, Freidom supports formerly and ITC (in the community/closet) Orthodox individuals who wish to live life aligned with their personal values.

Freidom provides social and emotional support and hands-on education on societal norms through social and cultural events. At Freidom members find a warm and welcoming community where they develop friendships, a sense of belonging and acceptance helping them rebuild what was lost due to ostracization by their community of origin. Additionally, Freidom events provide a platform for members to explore new cultural experiences of which they may have been deprived due to their sheltered upbringing. Furthermore, Freidom fosters a judgement-free atmosphere where members support each other and feel comfortable to ask questions, take risks, and gain confidence in navigating mainstream society.

Freidom hosts 160 events annually for 1,100+ members, ranging from casual dinners, museums, outdoor activities, and live theater, to Holiday parties, Prom, and is currently planning its first annual freiFEST (Freidom Festival) where members will get to celebrate their personal freedom together.

Website: www.freidom.org

Email: [email protected]

Donate: freidom.org/donate

Note: While there is no fee to join our organization, we suggest that you donate $1 per event (for events you choose to attend) which goes towards covering Freidom's operation cost.

You must be a minimum of eighteen years of age to join our events. Most events are adults-only. Some events are family-friendly. Unless explicitly specified, events are adults-only.

"Frei" is a term for a formerly Orthodox Jew.

("OTD" is a term for Off the Derekh-- or off the path of Orthodox observance).

Member's Submission:

"Freidom is a social support organization for individuals from formerly-Orthodox backgrounds. We meet on a regular basis for good food, thoughtful conversation, and other social events to make new friends. Most of us were raised with strong attachments to Orthodox Jewish observance, but, while we are each on our own journey, now live mostly secular lives. Our past unites us, and we take from it what we still find meaningful, but we otherwise live simply as members of the world community.

We're a friendly bunch who are always eager to meet new people who are on the Frei journey, whether formerly religious or just exploring. So feel free to request to join our group, and we'll let you know if you seem to be a fit.

Freidom hosts social events throughout North America, with a strong focus on NYC, Rockland County, North and South Jersey.

Additional NA regional areas include: Baltimore/DC, Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, South Florida, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Toronto.

Social events include, dining out, potluck dinners, movies, musical performances, museums, live theater, outdoor activities, cultural events, and anything else our members are interested in. We're always looking for new experiences, so suggestions are welcome and encouraged."

Screening process to protect Freidom members' identity:

To attend Freidom events, members must be vetted beforehand by a Freidom staff person over a Zoom video call or in-person.

Request a vetting member-intake meeting via email:
