Event description
Learn the neuroscience of stress and stress-related diseases with Dr. Safia Debar and founder of Zaya, Nadeya Hassan.

About this event

Stress changes the way the brain's neurons communicate with each other, chronic stress can cause our brains, nervous systems and behaviors to shift states. Even our hormones that are so important for the fight-or-flight response can lead to digestive issues, trouble sleeping, and a weakened immune system.

In this event, Dr. Safia Debar will discuss how stress affects the body and how it can impact the slow accumulation of chronic conditions, such as heart disease and cancer. We will discuss the neuroscience of stress, neuroplasticity, resiliency and stress management techniques such as mindfulness and relaxation techniques.

About Dr. Safia Debar

Dr Safia Debar, an established GP in London with a special interest in neuroscience, neuroplasticity, stress management and resiliency training. She is a Harvard BHI certified and currently the only doctor in the UK to run their SMART (Stress Management and Resiliency Training) course which has been incredibly successful. Tatler featured her as one of " The top 21 doctors in the UK" (Oct 2020).

Dr. debar graduated from St George’s University of London (distinction) but her first degree was in Neuroscience. She completed my General Practice vocational after working in numerous London hospitals in various medical specialities. She also undertook research, academic posts and completed a Masters in Public health.

Dr. Debar set up RQ wellness as I felt the traditional medical model of care wasn't enough. As well as her clinical practice, she now teaches SMART to individuals, corporate clients and as group courses. She is passionate about a holistic approach to health with stress management at its core. Dr. Debar believes by learning about our brain, we realise that we can manage our mind. By nurturing a new path, we can create an authentic way of living, thinking and being. This enables and empowers us to comprehend the truth about stress, that it's not all negative. The encompassing traits of our thoughts, behaviours, genetics and hormones are all interconnected with health and disease; which allows a discernible path to true wellness.
