They might be a bit annoying (and stinky), but they play an essential role in providing food to birds, amphibians, and fish. Their dead bodies help to fertilize shorelines. If you're not a fan of mayflies, don't worry! They'll be gone as quickly as they arrived. ⏳😅

Are they dangerous? Not at all. Adult mayflies don't have functional mouthparts and can't bite! The adults emerge, mate, and then die about 24-48 hours later. (+)

Shadflies, shadflies … what you gonna do when they come for you? 🤔 They're back!! These insects, called mayflies, emerge (come out of the water) in the millions, overwhelming predators. It's their strategy to improve their chances of surviving and mating. (+)⤵️

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No ... it's a Hummingbird moth. These moths come out during the day to feed upon nectar of flowers. They are rather plump and look a little bit like hummingbirds. Have you seen one lately? They're not very common so to spot one is a rare treat! 🌹
