An invitation to discuss three questions regarding the Movement Charter drafting committee

Discuss questions about the Movement Charter drafting committee

Hi there! This is an invitation to discuss three questions that need answers to create the Movement Charter drafting committee:

  • What composition should the committee have in terms of movement roles, gender, regions, affiliations and other diversity factors?
  • What is the best process to select the committee members to form a competent and diverse team?
  • How much dedication is it reasonable to expect from committee members, in terms of hours per week and months of work? Should the initial members commit for the whole duration of the project or should renewals be expected?

The objective is to collect questions, opinions, ideas, points of agreement and disagreement. A first report of this conversation will be published by the end of Friday, June 25 to inform the Global Conversations on the 26-27 of June.

Find more about the questions and conversations in other languages.

I am glad to join meetings or community conversations to pose the questions and receive feedback. Please reach out if you would like me to attend any meeting or community conversation.

how can make my own wiki on this website?

Jaylonbrice24 (talkcontribs)

I need helping making a Wikipedia

Clump (talkcontribs)

You can't here; see Project:About. You can either install MediaWiki locally if you want a private wiki just for yourself (requires some technical skills), or if you want to create something accessible by others and/or managed by someone else you'll need to find a place to do that for you, such as through one of the many hosting services.

unable to put a picture into my wiki

DA95 (talkcontribs)

hi everyone

My problem: I wanted to upload a picture (png.) from my computer into my wikipage.

Everything looks good until i get this:

We could not determine whether this file is suitable for Wikimedia Commons. Please only upload photos that you took yourself with your camera, or see what else is acceptable. See the guide to make sure the file is acceptable and learn how to upload it on Wikimedia Commons.

I've got the permission to use this picture, it shows nothing sexualthere is nothing violent or anything at all in it. What should i do?

thanks.

Ciencia Al Poder (talkcontribs)

Looking at task T146938, it looks like a filter used to prevent newbie users from uploading files to commons directly from other wikis (from the visual editor of a wiki different from commons). You should be able to upload it from commons: and then link to it from your page.

Tobias1xv (talkcontribs)

Me too :(

Naveen Kr Jindal (talkcontribs)

@Ciencia Al Poder Hi, even in commons link which you have provided above, I tried to upload my pics and I've authorised lisence to use these photos as the photos I'm trying to upload belongs to me but still I'm getting an automated error

"We could not determine whether this file is suitable for Wikimedia Commons. Please only upload photos that you took yourself with your camera, or see what else is acceptable. See the guide to make sure the file is acceptable and learn how to upload it on Wikimedia Commons.

The content must be freely licensed. Do not copy files illegally (in violation of copyright) from other websites.

If you believe that the file meets our licensing standards: Upload the file again or click "Retry failed uploads"/"Submit modified file description"

Please guide me how can I upload these pictures.

FACING PROBLEM WHILE PUBLISHING

Summary by Mainframe98

Read Project:About. The warning clearly says: This site is for documenting the MediaWiki software. It is not the wiki that you set up for your class, workplace, or personal use, nor is it Wikipedia.

Ishita9 (talkcontribs)

I am facing this issue while publishing the page.

ALSO IT SAYS THAT

You seem to be creating test pages for some reason. It is possible you're in the wrong place; see Project:About to find out what this wiki does.

Ishita9 (talkcontribs)

can you please help me with this

Leaderboard (talkcontribs)

I don't understand what you want to do.

Ishita9 (talkcontribs)

Okay... so i was trying to publish my content on mediawiki

Ciencia Al Poder (talkcontribs)

@Ishita9 There's no way we can help you if you don't want to read the warnings and links already provided.

Ishita9 (talkcontribs)

I am an application develper at Bridgetree and i simply wants to create a page on mediawiki and publish it.

Mainframe98 (talkcontribs)

Well, what you've done so far is not productive, nor within the project scope.

Please refrain from creating pages unrelated to this project. If you wish to do testing, you can use testwiki instead.

Thanks for pointing that out. It's a big-ish range for ip blocking, but I don't see any useful edits in the entire 5 year editing history of that range (other than translation defuzzing). So blocked for now, but I left the talk page open in case there are concerns.

I need special permission to add or edit external links when I go to add a new page.

It seems I need special permission to add or edit external links when I go to add a new page. Can I add that permission to my account to enable similar changes that refer to content outside of this wiki? Thank you!

Dinoguy1000 (talkcontribs)

The content you are attempting to add is not appropriate for this wiki. See Project:About.

Permission to post article in mainspace

Georgina Burnett (WMDE) (talkcontribs)

Hi there, I work in the software development department of Wikimedia Deutschland and I'm trying to create a page here:

https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikibase/Institutional_requirements_for_Wikibase

Unfortunately, I receive this message when I try to publish on the page: "We're sorry, your edit was not saved as it matched the rule: Prevent new users from creating articles in mainspace. This usually happens because the type of edit you made is often done by vandals and spammers. If that is not the case, we apologise. If you believe your edit was constructive, please file a request here, explaining what you were trying to do."

Is there some kind of list of approved accounts I can be added to so as to allow me to edit this page both now and in the future?

Thanks in advance for your help

Proposal for a new Beta Feature

4
Whatamidoing (WMF) (talkcontribs)

The Editing team is working on mw:Talk pages project/Notifications. It is a way to "subscribe" to a single ==Section==. It's a bit like phab:T2738 but it uses Special:Notifications instead of Special:Watchlist. It will only work on non-Flow talk pages. Unless there are objections, I'm going to ask the team to offer this as a default-off, opt-in-only Beta Feature here. Once we have a better idea of whether it works reliably, it will (hopefully) get turned on by default for everyone, but that's probably months and months from now.

Ciencia Al Poder (talkcontribs)

I think it's a good idea. At least, if there are any issues it can be turned off, and will help identify possible issues early.

I have to note, however, that here on mediawiki.org almost all talk pages use Structured Discussions, so it may not have a lot of testing surface...

Leaderboard (talkcontribs)

I don't see a problem with the proposal, but the above comment is also true.

Whatamidoing (WMF) (talkcontribs)

Thank you all for your responses. It sounds like it will be ready in a few weeks. As you say, most pages are Flow boards now, but it might get some use on some old User_talk: pages.
