Fletcher Roofing Co Inc

Fletcher Roofing is the only company that we would have work on our 72 year old slate roof. They are always on time and do everything by the book, which is important with slate. Jerry has a lot of experience working with slate, and explains the work he his going to perform.

We had our slate porch roof replaced with synthetic slate, and our house's main roof repaired. The estimator was personable and knowledgeable. The work was done in a timely fashion for a fair price, and the quality appears to be good.

No problems at all; the work was done better than expected; finding slates that match old slate (our roof is almost 90 years old) isn't easy, but they were able to do it.

Excellent. hey truly know their business and have an excellent slater. Don't use just any roofing company for slate. I met with plenty of other companies that clearly didn't know the slate business.

this was good overall. I used my influence with the Man Upstairs and had beautiful sunny weather. The men came and worked steadily for the four or five days, and were very focused and were careful to clean up after themselves. I would recommend them.

Gutterman Services Inc
5.0
WOW! I can’t believe a roofing contractor this good, this honest, this careful, this courteous, this professional, this experienced—not to mention, this reasonable—actually exists. But Gutterman Services of Sterling, VA, does, and if you need a new roof, you owe it to yourself to contact them. The turret roof on my Capitol Hill house was leaking badly, and Gutterman came to the rescue. The details: roofing bandits had persuaded an elderly previous owner to replace the original (and exceptionally durable) slate tiles on the turret roof with short-lived asphalt shingles—which were now rapidly disintegrating. I wanted to stop the leaks and restore the roof to its original historic condition as required by DC Historic District guidelines. Enter Harold Boosahda, Gutterman’s superb sales technician. He told me he could put new 150-year-lifespan slate tiles from the Buckingham quarry in Arvonia, VA (“Highest quality slate on Earth”) on my roof for a far more reasonable price than what other contractors I contacted were asking for far less durable synthetic materials. Even better: Gutterman stood by its work, offering me a 10-year workmanship warranty. I was impressed. Of the dozens of area roofers tracked by Consumers’ Checkbook, I couldn’t find another one with a 10-year warranty. The best other roofers offered me was 3 years—some only 1-year. And the contract: clear, fixed, clean, tight, and easy to understand. I appreciated this. So, I signed, and the project began. Enter Tony Riggs, Gutterman’s gifted slate roof expert. Leading a crew of consummate craftsmen, he replaced the disintegrating asphalt shingles, installed new Buckingham slate tiles of the type believed to have been used in 1896 on my Victorian-era turret roof and, most importantly, stopped the leaks! And that’s not all: he and his team did a marvelous job of restoring the roof. The slate looks terrific—perfect pattern, fit, overlap, and alignment, and the copper ridge caps beautifully accent and outline the rich blue-black handmade slate. What’s more, Tony—a true and talented artist—restored and reattached the finial ornament to the turret top in a manner that preserved its robust and authentic three-dimensional attitude. And, yes, at the end, neighbors commented not only on how beautiful they found the new roof but how thoroughly Tony’s team had hauled away debris and cleaned up the surrounding area. My wife and I are absolutely thrilled with our new Gutterman slate turret roof!

Jack's Roofing Co Inc
5.0
They were extremely knowledgeable and had a dedicated slate crew. I had studied slate roofs and asked each roofer I interviewed about certain technical approaches. Jack's knew precisely what to do. Amazingly, their price was the second lowest (the less expensive quote was $2,000 less) and approximately half of the high bid even though their knowledge of slate roofing appeared to be superior to the other roofers. I would highly recommend them.

Daniel Parks Roofing & Gutters
5.0
It went exceptionally well. I was away, when the service was performed. Because of rain, Mr. Tom Parks sent and email explaining that they would not come on the designated day, but on the next day, which they did. Mr. Parks sent before photos of the roof and after photos. They were very clear and told the story. During the next heavy rain storm, I kept my fingers crossed. The repair was successful and I had no more leaks. Mr. Parks assured me that if there were any problems, they would come out and do whatever they needed to make the necessary repairs. Well, I thought that I had a leak in a different area of the roof. Mr. Parks sent out " his best worker" to take a look. It turns out that the leak was not from the roof, but from an upstairs toilet, that was leaking through my ceiling. I must say that I am more that pleased with how professional, responsive, pleasant Daniel Parks Roofing is and how they keep their word regarding the quality of work and also their honoring their promise regarding standing behind the work they perfor. I recommend them, and have already to several people, with great enthusiasm.

It went really well. John came by, went up on the roof and let me know the overall condition, what repairs were needed, how he planned to address current leaks. Everything he said made sense, and he gave me tips on future care. He was able to get a crew by same day and all work was completed. Very clean work, professional, overall great experience.

It went very well. The appraiser arrived on time. The estimate of additional slates made at that time was spot on. There were no additional charges when the work was done. The work was done in the timeframe in the contract. Everything was left clean and neat. I have used this company before as it is difficult to find anyone who works with slate roofs. When it comes to slate roof repair costs, this company is well within the normal range. I will use them again.

Whiting Co

Very well, except for occupant safety. They did excellent roof work, which is the basis of our rating. We were especially impressed by the amount of copper they used. Scheduling was complicated by the winter weather, but they kept us apprised and finished pretty much as planned. However, their crew had no plan for safely discarding trash from the roof; one piece nearly hit me as I tried to leave our home.

Fletcher Roofing did an excellent job. They were careful not to dislodge other slate tiles as they replaced tiles that had fallen off during the course of bygone years. I was very pleased with the job they did. They worked on my slate roof in 2006 and then again in 2014.

FRANK'S GUTTER & ROOFING
3.0
Gutter job was OK (although sharp steel screws through joints makes cleaning gutters a very uncomfortable task.) But did not arrive with enough replacement slates or metal strips to hold them in place and used some I had on hand. Slate repairs were made by walking on the roof without any safety equipment (really stupid and scary on a steep slate roof!) and ended up damaging a number of slates resulting in serious leaks that weren't found until much later (after warranty period) owing to finished interior. Some slates were "replaced" by pushing the broken pieces back into place and using a nail to hold in place - putting an additional hole in other slates. Snow guards were nailed in place also breaking slates and creating leaks. Frank did respond to one call to repair a leak his workers had caused and that had damaged a ceiling but came without proper equipment and had to borrow my ladders. Maybe he'd be OK on just gutters and asphalt but he isn't welcome back at my site.

removed old slate roof that was beyond useful life, repaired some damaged wood, and installed a new synthetic slate roof with copper flashing. Work was performed promptly and the results are fantastic at a reasonable price.

Shawn came and carefully inspected and diagnosed the problems of missing slates, slates that had been improperly installed by the last roofer at significant cost (two repairs last year, still leaked). The work was supervised and carefully and completely done, with a five year guarantee. He clearly has experience in diagnosing problems and is an expert roofer.

Recent Review: They are European trained which means they have studied roofing for years and years. My roof was a mess and they did a wonderful, wonderful job. They were always very prompt, the owner always answered my calls and checked things out, the workers were neat, they were polite, and they closed the gates so my dog didn't get out. I think they are great and his company does a wonderful job.
