WB MASKE SHEET METAL WORKS
4.0
To do a price comparison before repairing my leaky roof, I requested an estimate from two companies. WB Maske did an estimate, but I didn't hear back from them. After a week, I followed up with the estimator and he mailed me an estimate. My main issue was that they proposed to use an aluminum patch on the copper roof, which according to my research is a bad idea - copper and aluminum are not compatible, and if they are used together, they can corrode. The price and the time frame on the guarantee were also not as good as the other estimator, so I went with the other company.

First, they were willing to take on a small project. Second, they took the time necessary to understand what I needed and helped with the design. Finished product was ready the next morning and was carefully made. Price was extremely reasonable. I would have paid the same price or higher if I had to rent a metal brake and do the work myself. For aluminum at least, the customer needs to buy the metal and bring it to the shop. I purchased my .032 aluminum from the Roof Center in Alexandria. The resulting flashing and gutter is much sturdier than anything I could purchase and try to adapt from Home Depot, Lowes, etc.

Lyons Contracting Inc

Tom replaced an old metal roof with a standing seam copper roof on our home addition. We really enjoyed working with him and Lyon's. They do absolutely beautiful work (I will try to add a photo this week). More generally, Tom is patient and happy to answer client questions and I had a lot of questions. He also is incredibly prompt in responding to his clients (including late in the afternoon and on weekends). We plan to work with him on smaller projects in the future.

Central Exteriors
5.0
We spoke with five different roofing companies, and ultimately we decided on Central based on a combination of their great reputation on Angie's list, their price, and comfort level from speaking with Matt K. We are very happy with our decision. From estimate to project completion, Matt was a consummate professional. His responsiveness and helpful thoughts on answering our questions was much appreciated. Matt gave us a reasonable estimate for when the work would be completed. Work was delayed a day or two due to weather which was beyond Central's control. We were the unfortunate victims of theft of our copper downspouts. Matt advised us that the gutter and downspout materials need to be consistent in order to maximize their useful lives. Therefore, we had to either install new and expensive copper downspouts or install aluminum gutters and downspouts. We chose the latter option. Matt arranged to have the copper gutters (that the thieves were unable to steal) chopped into 3 foot segments so that we could have them recycled and recoup some of our costs for the new gutters. The roof looks great, and after a few big thunderstorms rolling through the area the new roof is doing its job. In short, we highly recommend Central for your roofing needs.

Whiting Co
5.0
Very well. "Dave", Whiting Company's slate specialist, is arguably the best in this area. We especially liked two things about Dave: (1) He took total responsibility for all the work needed above the roof line, including substantial chimney repair. Another contractor asked us to separately hire a mason. (2) He recommended that we re-install snow guards in copper. Our home was built with galvanized steel guards, which were mostly removed, probably because they eventually rusted and looked terrible. I asked about installing a copper ridge piece for aesthetic reasons, but that was not part of the original architecture and, in retrospect, would have looked odd. Dave's suggestion told me he had a good sense of style as well as roof mechanics. Our home looks great with the copper snow guards!

Corley Roofing & Sheet Metal Co Inc
5.0
Josh and Corley were great throughout the process. Josh's quote was prompt, accurate and took into account both conservative and generous options for the work we need done on the roof/gutters, including preventative maintenance. Josh did a patient job working with my elderly mother through the process of selecting some basic maintenance and some preventative steps in terms of materials associated with gutter replacement. While we didn't select the cheapest option, it was presented along with the pros and cons of price. The work was performed to a high standard and we will probably use Corley again for roof and gutter work in the future. This was a very positive and professional experience.

WB MASKE SHEET METAL WORKS
5.0
My experience was excellent. The estimator came promptly at the appointed time and left a favorable impression of competence and insight. The estimate came several days later, but clearly involved more analysis at headquarters. The work as finally planned got more elaborate than what was initially described during the estimating visit, but a persuasive case was made that more was needed. The job entailed putting up a scaffold, followed by the actual repair. The timespan was about two weeks (including scaffold up and down) with three or so days of actual on-site effort during that time. (I imagine some sheet metal work was done back at the shop.) The result seems very solid and craftsman-like and, months later after some heavy rains, it seems that the leaks have been stopped. Great work, but pricey.

Kelly Exteriors
5.0
We first used Kelly on the reference of an Angie's List A-rated provider that we have used multiple times with excellent results each time, for jobs totaling approximately $70,000...so we had a lot of trust in that recommendation. As it turned out, that recommendation was well worth its weight--Kelly has done two roofing jobs for us so far, including a complete tearoff with a standing seam metal replacement. His craftmanship is outstanding and professionalism and pride in work obvious. In addition to a very tricky technical job that invoroof working closely with masons building a huge chimney, he also fixed copper gutters and added more 'snowbirds' on another metal roof. He seems to have a working knowledge of a variety of trades and his work can only be described as beautiful. We are so pleased to have 'discovered' him and recommend him without reservation.

WAGNER ROOFING
4.0
I am very pleased with the roof and gutters and the quality of the work performed. We had the gutters replaced about five years ago, at a cost of about $35,000, by another company, who was the lowest bidder (that company is nowhere to be found, at least by the same name). Wagner bid at that time and was the second high, but we chose the cheapest. The gutters are specialty gutters and we had a hard time finding any company that could work on them. They were poorly done so when it was obvious they had to be redone, I decided to go with Wagner, and have the roof done at the same time. Unbeknownst to me, our salesman became ill after we signed the contract, and i believe our project fell through the cracks, which is why I rated a C for punctuality. After several follow up calls, eventually directly to Mr. Wagner, work started in December, but by only two men. These men were very skilled, polite, and professional, but it is a large roof and the winter was terrible. There were only a couple weeks where they could work a full week due to weather. We were told that these were the best men for the job, which I believe, but Wagner is a large company. (If the weather were better, the time would have been substantially less even with only two men, who worked non-stop through the bitter cold.) Nonetheless, the job was completed in May and it is beautiful and the gutters work perfectly. I have had two follow-up issues and the response has been good. I have been noticing much more closely other metal roofs and can see the difference in quality between ours and others. I believe the difference in price was worth it, and the long wait for completion, while tedious going through it, was time well spent.

Endreola Sheetmetal, LLC

I called Dale because he came highly recommended by other roofers in the area who were stumped by my perpetually leaking skylight. I was told, "if anyone can figure out what's going on, it's Dale - he's the best in the business when it comes to copper roofing". Dale replaced the skylight and resoldered some areas of the roof that were problematic, and his price was competitive with other roofers who seemed to have much less experience with metal roofs. Most importantly, it's fixed! Haven't had any more problems since the repair. I highly recommend Dale - he's professional, honest, responds promptly to email, and is highly skilled in his trade.

The owner of Lyons Contracting has the highest standards for installing a roof. He uses copper flashing instead of aluminum. He uses good quality materials. His crew has been with him for a long time, which I think is a sign of quality. He is very responsive if there is any problems. I have recommended him to other people.

SAMUEL C BOYD INC
5.0
They gave me two estimates, one using copper and the second, $1,000.00 less, using stainless steel. They replaced the completely deteriorated metal sheeting with stainless steel, all of the flashing in this section of the roof, shingles as needed, and the chimney flashing. They recaulked the chimney. They fabricated and installed a brand-new stainless steel-covered access hatch. And they closed off the hole behind a dormer where squirrels were getting into the attic. I was also very pleased that they worked hand in hand with Charlie Hibbard, my HVAC contractor, to install an emergency vent pipe from the air conditioning air handler's drain pan in the attic through the roof. I was very pleased with the professionalism and prompt response to my inquiry. Dan Rank came out and sized up the situation within just a few days of my call. The work was done a few weeks later, after I decided between the stainless steel and copper alternatives and contacted Charlie Hibbard, over a period of several days. Chris Boyd and Angie in the office were also most helpful and responsive to my inquiries, both on the phone and via email. The job wasn't cheap, but I continue to marvel at the company's professionalism, responsiveness, and quality of work. They were great to do business with. When the time eventually comes to replace the entire roof, I will certainly give Samuel E. Boyd, Inc. a call.

The team arrived promptly, prepped the surrounding of the house and deck (since the deck and adirorndack chairs were recently re-stained), completed the job involving replacing step flashings, aluminum drip edge, ice and water shield, plumbing vent pipe etc... as previously discussed. The debris was hauled away and a metallic sweep was done after the roof repair was completed. A special request was made to have a photo taken of the completed job of which Scott promised to take and email a copy of record purposes.

SPRINGFIELD ROOFING & SHEET METAL, INC.

Springfield roofing sent out an estimator quite promptly, and follwed up later that day with a written estimate. Once I had signed the estimate, they came out within 24 hours to repair the roof. Two weeks later, the roof was still leaking, so I called them and they came out the next day and did more work. No leaks since then. They were about $500 cheaper than the other estimate I got, and they guarantee their work for a year. I was very pleased.

W E Griffin Roofing
5.0
Matt Hoffman and W.E. Griffin Roofing have been tending our slate roof and copper gutters for two years, and we have reviewed them previously. We just want to add that after the previous storm, we found that the weight of overhanging snow was causing some gutters (installed by another firm) to sag. Matt inspected them and said that he would have galvanized steel nails (rather than copper) driven through the gutter and fascia boards into every rafter tail. His crew came promptly and performed the repairs efficiently. In the latest storm, there is no sign of sagging in either the gutters installed by W.E. Griffin or in those recently repaired.

Endreola Sheetmetal, LLC

I was lucky enough to be introduced to Dale Endreola through another reputable contractor (John Ours Construction-Manassas). Unfortunately, I was the victim of an unscrupulous roofer that left me with such a horrendous roof that I was forced to replace the entire thing within just 3 years of having it installed. A very expensive lesson learned indeed. Anyways, Dale tore the 'old' roof off and did the job correctly from scratch. The difference in craftsmanship is like night and day. Craftsman is a good word to describe Dale. A big part of the job was lining 220 feet of hidden gutters with soldered sheets of copper. He soldered the downspouts and put just enough slant on the runs to direct water right to the downspouts. His attention to detail was obvious. I've enjoyed a full year with a job I'm confident will last a lifetime. Dale is truly one of a kind. I would recommend him for ANYTHING that he says he can do. He takes pride in his work and it shows in everything he does

Recent Review: It went very well. This was a HUGE job. It took close to 3 weeks. We had so many different roof types and angles on our house, that it was not an easy job. They are European-trained specialists. They cleaned up daily and were very nice and polite and a pleasure to work with. I recommend them highly.

Over the years, the unique benefits of metal roofing (such as durability, flexibility, and cost-effectiveness) are being realized and more people are choosing to install this type of roof. One question homeowners struggle with is the metal roofing price. It’s important to know how much these roofs may cost to install and to repair over time.

Nearby Metal Roofing Costs

The average national cost for installing or replacing a metal roof is $8,123 for a home of 2000 square feet or less. This comes out to an average cost of $7-$13 per square foot. Metal roofs are more durable (and thus cost more) than other roofing materials such as asphalt shingles.

The overall metal roofing cost is influenced by factors such as material costs, labor and the size/shape of your home. The average labor cost is about $3,000 for a regularly shaped metal roof (with minimal steep slopes or shape changes). Labor costs can fluctuate if the roof is coated, waterproofed, or fitted with drip edges.

The biggest benefits of metal roofs are their durability and low maintenance costs. You’re likely to experience less frequent metal roofing problems and thus incur less on actual repairs. In many cases, repairs are done due to leaks, cracks and gaps, corrosion, or damage from inclement weather.

  • The actual cost of repairs can be as low as $200 for a periodic roof inspection.
  • Expect to pay $4,000- $6,000 for more extensive repairs or replacement of certain areas of the roof itself.
  • Most homeowners spend an average of $1,200 on metal roof repairs.
  • Individual metal panels may cost $3-$5 per square foot to replace.

Metal roofing problems such as leaks can be prevented by using proper sealant on all surfaces and joints.

In addition, rust/corrosion issues can be minimized by using the right coating material. Damage from inclement weather is more difficult to avoid, but repairs commonly involve replacing damaged metal shingles or re-coating and re-sealing as necessary.
