    Why are assemblages (and to some extent non-lichenised fungi) still referred to as 'flora'? Isn't it about time they had an appropriate classification ('myca', 'funga')? Also, see 'lower plants' of which they are neither.

    My eyes popped when I saw this. The European Environment Agency has acknowledged that green growth is "unlikely" and calls for post-growth and degrowth alternatives to be integrated into EU policy.

    My Pappy was like this. One time, a woman approached him at a golf course. She had been looking for him for many years after he saved her & her siblings from their burning house as children. He had never told anyone & was just like, “Oh, yea.”

    "100 companies are responsible for 71% of emissions" has become a rallying cry for why efforts to reduce one's personal emissions don't matter. But...that premise and the conclusion are both untrue.

    If I were a distant superintelligence who wanted to keep tabs on an alien planet I would simply engineer an organism that emerged from the ground on prime number year cycles, observed from on high for several weeks, and screamed data transmissions into the sky.
