After seeing so many positive words about this man on Angies List, I contacted him with confidence. Since we just started our rental business, we hoped to build up a good relationship with him. We just bought this house. Jack told us it would take him two days to finish the task on the list we gave him and each day, he will work for 7(from 8-3) hours for $175. He expressed appreciation of us giving him the work since someone just canceled on him that week. We left him the key to house and totally trusted him. After the first day which is Monday, he called to tell us he will take part of Wednesday to complete the job. We went over to the house and found out all he did that day was to fix two ceiling light fixtures (my husband already took down the ceiling fans and put up the fixtures), replace bathroom vanity faucet and fix the leak, put up the range hood. Later, he told me it took him two hours to figure out the light fixture wiring. Around 3pm on Tuesday, he called and told me it would take whole day Wednesday and possibly Thursday to finish the job. He said for his two day job, we owed him $445 since the first day, he mainly performed electrical and plumbing work which he charges $30/hr instead of $25. Anyway, by end of Wednesday, we would owe him $620 and all the mini blinds he left not hanging up by then, we will either do it ourselves or have him come back on Thursday. On the other hand, he went ahead and did a few things which we didn't ask him to do such as caulking the tub etc. (we already scheduled to have the tub reglazed and my husband removed the old caulking.). In the evening, my husband told me he stopped by the house that day around 8am Jack wasn't there and around 2:15pm Jack had already left. So I called Jack and when I asked him what time he left house, he told me it was around 2:30pm. After I told him what my husband told me, he explained that he went to hardware store at 7:30am and 2pm to pick up materials for the repair. Later he gave us the receipt. After I expressed disapointment with the inaccuracy of his original estimate and reminded him of one job on the list that obviously he was not clear about and didn't bother to ask. He got upset and saying since he didn't think he would have any other way to satisfy me, he better off just stop what he is doing and asked us to pay him for the two days he's worked. We paid him on Wednesday morning and had to find other people to finish what he has left off such as texturing the 4x6 repaired ceiling, fix the minibarn doors etc.. My husband hung up all the miniblinds and fixed a light switch that Jack failed to do. What upset me more is, a few days later, we had a heating/cooling person to service the furnace and A/C. He went up to the attic and happened to find out the return duct line Jack claimed to have fixed was not repaired properly. If he didn't know how to do the job, he could have just told us and took it off from the list. We were extremely disapointed with this man.
