FWIW, this is mostly what the CEO of (chip constrained) esaid when asked by an analyst 'why not raise prices.' Lots of chatter about relationships, and how it's far better to focus energy on lifting production to meet high demand rather than disrupt with price changes.

I wonder if one way to think about the inflation gap between used and new cars is that the automakers are already running at new capacity, and so higher prices do nothing to induce more supply. Whereas with used cars, higher prices make more cars available to the market.

The chip issue is channeling demand into used cars by retail buyers & rental car companies who usually buy new but sold fleets last year & are trying to keep up w/ a rapid recovery in demand. It is still wild to me that used car buyers are so much less price sensitive

The peak commodities story was when sent a commodities team of 9 in to see us, and the trade they were most excited about was 'long rhodium, short molybdenum' (molybdenum had gotten too crowded). I sh*t you not.

I totally missed that the guy who was arrested for the Times Square shooting was caught, in part it seems, due to his car running out of gasoline and not being able to refuel
