Account Manager (Sydney)

Time Out is actively seeking an eager, hungry sales professional to join the growing commercial team. If you love city life as much as we do, live and breathe culture, travel and hospitality and love the hustle and working with people, then we want to hear from you. The successful applicant will be responsible for securing revenue and client growth and maintaining commercial client relationships across both direct and agency for Time Out Australia.

This role will help seek out new and existing business across the digital, print, social and experiential. This role depends upon excellent interpersonal and communication skills and sector knowledge. This role requires a minimum of three years media experience and is perfect for someone with hustle, grit and ability to service clients but also develop business in the process.

Videographer-Editor (Sydney)

We are seeking a Sydney-based full-time content creator to conceptualise, produce, shoot and edit online video across the various Time Out Australia digital platforms. This is an opportunity to join a creative and motivated team in telling the stories that help Time Out’s audience experience the best of their cities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Produce and shoot online videos ranging from short form for social media to long-form series for both editorial and commercial needs
  • Work with editors and design team on concepts, planning shoots (in studio and on location), sourcing any necessary props and costumes, obtaining model releases, shooting video (with high-quality sound and lighting), editing in AfterEffects/Premiere Pro/Audition
  • Edit additional videos based on supplied footage and photography
  • Curate videos from multiple sources to enhance existing content
  • Create motion graphics packages and animations
  • Post videos on social media where required
  • Work to ensure Time Out video reflects house style
  • Maintain Time Out’s video archive
  • Ensure Time Out meets its copyright and legal obligations
  • Ensure office video equipment is in good working order; budget for repair/replacement as needed
  • Manage a network of freelancers who can create video content for Time Out

You will have:

  • Education to degree level or equivalent industry qualification (an additional qualification in video production preferable)
  • Experience in Blender and/or Cinema4D would be an advantage
  • An ability to collaborate across business functions and with external parties
  • A demonstrable passion for and excellent knowledge of video production
  • Expertise creating graphics and animation
  • Highest standard of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise accordingly
  • The ability to work quickly to tight deadlines under pressure
  • Flexibility, urgency, drive and a professional approach at all times

Lifestyle Journalist (Melbourne)

Time Out Australia is looking for an enthusiastic and tenacious journalist to join Time Out’s Melbourne team. The position is full time, and the journalist will be covering all areas of Time Out’s patch, from travel to things to do, shopping to nightlife, wellness to events and festivals. 

The successful applicant will live and breathe Melbourne and be ready to hit the ground running with original feature ideas that connect our audience with the most exciting venues and events in their city. Ideally they will already have an extensive network of contacts and will be a confident interviewer and writer.

The journalist must also have a deep understanding of how to inspire audiences in the digital space and make even the most esoteric and challenging events and projects seem accessible and essential. And of course, they’ll be a team player who loves sharing their knowledge with the wider team and is willing to collaborate closely with editorial staff on content that engages an entire city. Over time they will be assigned duties requiring more independent initiative as they gain more experience in the role.

The successful applicant will be a fast, accurate and creative writer and will be required to write numerous event listings, venue listings and feature stories every week. From time to time, the journalist will also have to contribute to commercial briefs and write sponsored content. At the same time, they’ll know how to maintain the editorial integrity that has made Time Out a leader in the lifestyle journalism space for more than 50 years, and ensure the independence of its coverage.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Journalism experience, ideally in lifestyle media, features writing, arts and culture writing or food media
  • A thorough understanding of and enthusiasm for Melbourne, including major attractions, festivals and things to do
  • An everlasting supply of ideas for stories to write
  • Excellent attention to detail and grammatical skills
  • Familiarity with analytics tools like Parse.ly or Google Analytics
  • Excellent interview skills 
  • An understanding of defamation and intellectual property laws in Australia
  • The ability to learn new applications and software quickly
  • Experience in using social media and SEO to grow new audiences and inspire existing audiences to engage more deeply with a range of content
  • A passion for going out! There is the expectation that the journalist will attend events, openings and interviews and won’t be hesitant to say yes to opportunities.
  • Strong relationship-building skills, relating to both internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent writing skills 
  • Organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and assignments at once
  • The ability to meet tight deadlines

Branded Content Writer (Melbourne)

Role overview

We are seeking a Branded Content Writer to join our Creative Solutions team to produce content in partnership with our many clients in the arts, hospitality, travel, FMCG and beyond. Over time the successful candidate will be assigned duties requiring more independent initiative as they gain more experience in the role. Based in our Melbourne office, this full-time role is a chance to work for an internationally renowned brand among highly motivated creatives with a passion for going out.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Write branded/sponsored content of varying kinds including listings, features and interview-based stories under broad supervision.
  • Build and publish content online.
  • Liaise with ad operations to make client amendments.
  • Attend commercial brainstorming meetings and other commercial meetings as required to contribute creative ideas.
  • Contribute occasional editorial content across website, print and social media.
  • Post occasionally across Time Out’s social media portfolio.
  • Sub editing work from internal and external contributors.
  • Occasional attendance at Time Out events and client-run events for the purposes of business development is a part of this role.

You will have:

  • At least two years’ experience in a full-time editorial role.
  • A knack for creative writing and snappy headlines.
  • The ability to produce sparkling and error-free copy.
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise accordingly.
  • The ability to work quickly to tight deadlines under pressure.
