W E Griffin Roofing
5.0
This is part B on my Total Roof Overhaul, which began in 2011.  Griffin replaced the rest of my main house roof. It has been two years since the main roof redo so when I say the roof has held up well through some truly horrific weather, I am definitely speaking from experience. Griffin started part A of my reroof in October 2011 and fixed what was a major, horrible leak in one section of my complicated roof.  A few months after that, to my horror, I discovered the flat roof on our 1904 Victorian began leaking (this was not the section Griffin had repaired earlier).  I laid tarps out in the attic and called Griffin immediately. We had to start Part B a little sooner than anticipated. The old rubber flat roof had given out (if you read my part A review you can see that many other roofing companies didn't think that the whole roof needed to be replaced. Well, they were wrong to say the least). Matt Hoffman came out and they got to work, uncovering some really unfortunate things. The gutters were a disaster, literally dangling off the house and the water was getting under the roof and had rotted several supporting beams. Matt suggested sistering the beams with new wood, replacing everything that had to be replaced and getting new gutters for the main house. We went with copper to match the valleys and flashing. They built copper chimney crickets in back of my newly rebuilt chimneys and added copper valleys where needed in the roof. The work took three weeks and my husband and I had to laugh that a new house being built down the street went up faster than our roof job. Just goes to show you the kind of craftsmanship that passes for "new construction" these days. W.E. Griffin stands by the quality of their work. About a year after the roof was replaced, I noticed what looked like a leak under what was a vent pipe in the bathroom. I called Matt and he sent someone out instantly who replaced the pipe collar. However, Matt came over to follow up and be sure that was really the issue?.and it turned out the pipe itself, when installed, was never sealed and was leaking. Matt had someone seal my pipes too. It has been a year and no problems since. This is the kind of quality follow-up you can expect.  The roof now matches the house in terms of being ironclad. I remember one high rated roofing company telling me (Once I explained that I was trying to decide between their services and Griffin's) "Well, I mean you don't need your roof to be a fortress!" after I wondered why he wasn't recommending certain things (valleys, for example). Er?..yes, in fact, I DO want my roof to be a fortress. The weather events lately have reinforced that notion. Anyway, it's time to start part C of the roof (porches, breezeway, garage) and that's happening soon. I feel confident that I'm in for another satisfying experience which I will review when it is done and some time has passed.

Daniel Parks Roofing & Gutters

They did a good job, very professional - so no issue on quality. I clearly ended up paying way more than the job was worth - clearly my own fault. I should have done a better job researching and would have arrived at this conclusion before agreeing to a price. They do good quality work but they truly are priced at the upper limits. So, if I needed a gutter installer I would call Parks again, but assuredly I would do my homework on what the job is worth. Also, they did not offer the regular Angies's list discount of 10%

Matt, our contact at Central Roofing, was efficient and personable. We had to request a more detailed estimate to specify copper, but the service and the cost were excellent. The crew that came out to do the work did a clean and speedy job. It looks like nice work. The company was not able to do needed repair work on our slate roof, but that was the only downside to using them.

We remodeled the front exterior of our home and had Tom design a flat membrane roof for our new porch so that the porch would blend in to our home and not have a pitched roof taking away from the aesthetics. Lyons installed beautiful copper gutters to the front of our home. Their installation process was impeccable - they handle all materials with care and wear gloves so that the copper is beautiful and stays clean upon installation to weather naturally. We had some issues with a rear roof and had Lyons remove the old flat copper roof and install a slightly pitched roof on the rear overhang of our home. The new copper roof is beautiful and they even installed rain chains to blend in with the garden vs. having ugly copper or white gutters hanging off the roof onto our patio. We will definitely hire Tom and Lyons Contracting again when we are ready for a new roof. Tom is the best contractor around who installs copper gutters and slate roofs! We have an asphalt shingle roof now, but would love to replace that with a slate roof on our next phase!

Wow, I found Young's Construction off of Angie's List, and they did a wonderful job replacing a bunch of copper downspouts that were stolen recently from our church located in Fairfax, VA. I got estimates from two companies; the other came in cheaper, but they lacked any detail, and were not thorough in any way. Young's Construction's estimate included photos, etc, and was amazingly thorough. As it turns out my church insurance low balled us and only gave us money (less deductible) for the lower bidder, and I was going to reluctantly use them, but got a call from Ben Chae, and he proceeded to match the other company's bid! Then, it was simply amazing how quickly they came out to get the job done. We were going through a particularly bad cold spell, with extremely low wind chill, yet they came and persevered and got the job done amazingly quickly, what a pleasure it was to work with such a great company, so responsive, so flexible! Unfortunately your website does not allow me to enter the address of my church where the work was performed, it lists my home address, but that was not where the work was done, it was done at Truro Anglican Church, located at 10520 Main Street, Fairfax, VA 22030.

Orion Home Improvements LLC

Sales process and insurance support was excellent. Orion Home Improvements helped identify and document damage caused by hail. They were on-site to talk with the insurance agent and helped understand the insurance process. Once the work was approved, Orion was fairly good at scheduling the start date and timeline. However, there was a lack of project oversite that caused some confusion on the part of the work crews. Unfortunately, there was never a project manager on site, so the homeowner had to work with the crews who, for the most part, did not speak English well enough to interact. Other than these few missteps, the work was done very professionally and Orion always responded to any homeowner concerns to get the job done right. We are very happy with the results. Our home looks new again and all the hail damage has been repaired. Thank you, Orion Home Improvements!

Toby Schaefer and Josh Burdett are knowledgeable, conscientious, flexible, and a pleasure to work with. My roof job was more complicated than the typical roof replacement, and I talked to several firms before going with Schaefer Burdett. They did not have the lowest price, but it was worth paying a little more to hire a company that knows what it's doing and cares about doing high-quality work. We are very pleased with the results and I have recommended them to my friends.

The work is pretty specialized because our house is historic and we have copper gutters. The price they quoted us was a ball park of $7000 for that service. We decided to use them because of their knowledge and their price.

There is a small addition on the back of my house that has a flat roof.  The old tin roof was replaced in 2000 with copper roofing.  After seven years, the roof started to leak in several places.  After determining that the copper roof had not been installed correctly, I decided to have it replaced with TPO and chose Lyons Contracting to do the job.  Tom's price was competitive and the references he had given me all had their TPO flat roofs for at least ten years without any leaks.  Tom's team of five arrived at 7:15 AM and proceeded to tear off the old copper roof and the tin roof that the previous roofing company had left in place.   Due to water damage, there was some rotted roof decking that needed to be replaced.  The team then proceeded to install Firestone white TPO, including new drip edging, copper flashing around the chimney, and new vents.  Tom included new gutters along the south side of the roof at no additional charge.  Tom also did not charge me for the 32 sq. ft. of new roof decking.  The team cleaned up and from looking at the back yard, you would never know they had been there.

I'm sitting here 3 years later as DC racks up rainfall records watching the water flow through my gutters without a hitch. Time was, I'd be hanging out the window with a broomstick. Thanks MastersShield! They work so well I wish I could buy them again! But luckily I don't have to.

They came out to give an estimate. I had him back out so on 8/11 I could sign the proposal. He informed me someone would contact me from the office to schedule the appointment. On 8/19 I called the office as I had not heard anything. Nobody in the office knew who I was or that there had ever been an order. They said they would call me back. I paid a deposit. Again no one called me so I called to speak with the manager Bruce on 8/22. He said they would send someone out today, no one ever came out. I called the office and was told they were drug testing employees today and "Didn't Laurie call you", she hadn't. I called the manager who confirmed the drug test. After speaking to Bruce I told him to cancel the job.

Had asked for an estimate in fall 2009 prior to the east coast snow blizzards. decided to wait to replace gutters...glad we did. katchmark came out in the spring to revisit original estimate and performed the work. they took photos and made detailed drawings so their crew knew exactly where and what work was to be performed. was very happy with the quality of the work. asked the workers to save the old gutters so i could recycle the materials and they did so willingly. only thing that went wrong was there was miscommunication on the arrival time. luckily, we were still home by the time the crew showed up.

Greentech was very professional and efficient.  I was immediately told that my old gutters were copper and had some value and should be recycled.  The representative from Greentech did not try to oversell me which I appreciated. I will definitely call Greentech for other projects.

There were two delays to the start of the job. Daniel and his crew showed up an the new date and they installed everything as planned. They did a professional and good job and left everything in good order With the benefit of hindsight I could have done a much better job negotiating - I do believe that I ended up paying quite a bit more than the job was worth. However, that clearly is my fault and not the contractor. I would recommend competitive shopping and having a clear idea of the cost of the materials involved.s
