Apple Maps ka ndryshuar emrat e qyteteve dhe fshatrave në Kosovë nga gjuha serbe në atë shqipe. Apple ka përdorur të dhënat nga OpenStreetMap për të shënjuar këto lokacione në gjuhën shqipe.

OpenStreetMap është projekt i hapur bashkëpunues ku secili individ mund të kontribuojë duke edituar apo duke shtuar lokacione të ndryshme. OSM ka rreth 7 milionë përdorues të regjistruar ndër të cilët janë edhe nxënësit e disa shkollave të mesme të Kosovës të cilët po i trajnojmë aktualisht për të pasuruar hartën e Kosovës. Kontributi juaj në OpenStreeMap do të shfaqet në shumë harta mobile, duke përfshirë edhe në Apple Maps.

Apple Maps has changed the names of cities and villages in Kosovo from Serbian to Albanian. Apple has used data from OpenStreetMap to mark these locations in Albanian.

OpenStreetMap is a collaborative project where anyone can contribute by editing or adding different locations.
OSM has about 7 million registered users, including students from several high schools in Kosovo whom we are currently training to enrich the map of Kosovo. Your contribution on OpenStreetMap will be visible on many mobile maps, including Apple Maps.

‘’Release of data created by public institutions as open data’’ is our next request for the Government.

Agencies that produce important data about the life of citizens charge for their data which hinders use by the public.

By making these data widely available as open data they will be accessible in bulk and through APIs. At least the following datasets will be liberated as a result of this policy: Kosovo Spatial Planning Document, Municipality Spatial Planning Documents, Orthophotos, all data on the Geoportal, Land Parcel Identification System, and Hydrometeorological Measurements.

As the third request for the Government, FLOSSK proposes a policy that puts software and underlying code funded by government money under a copyleft license available to the public.

What is the expected impact?

Software will be available for others to work and improve on in the future, and when that happens, it could come back to the Government to be integrated and further improved. This will allow for Government transparency related to decision-making parties on citizens’ rights and privileges.

Kosovo is lacking in the delivery of e-government services both to the citizens and to the public administration itself.

One of our requests for the Government is the procurement of Free/Libre and Open Source Software.

What are FLOSS’s benefits? This policy will lead to more competitive procurement procedures and will reduce costs as software projects will be adopted and be built on from existing open source code.

One of FLOSSK’s requests for the new Government is to establish a policy that defines and expands the public material created by institutions under the public domain.

Through this policy, more creative material created by the government will be available to the general public and this will spur economic activity, among other things.
