Please note: This is not a few for Magnolia Plumbing. I had an excellent experience with Darrell Laskey (a plumber) and intend on moving forward with his quote as-is. Review for Magnolia Heating and Cooling: Yikes! I really wanted to use Magnolia Heating and Cooling. Jacob Carter applied too much darn pressure. He promptly arrived for our walk thru. He quoted a price Friday, 19 May. It took me three days to get back to him since I was in a car accident. Three days still isn't unreasonable when someone is making an approx. $5k investment. Once I finally had a chance to analyze the proposal, I thought the labor price and warranty were a tad unreasonable for the market. I wasn't sure; but wanted to verify. Additionally, the quoted unit was one of the cheapest Mitsubishi units with horrible reviews. I asked for a better unit. He said he could give me the upgraded unit & warranty, while keeping the price the same. I don't know how much Magnolia was going to purchase the unit for; but there is a $1k difference (commercially available price) between what was quoted and what I wanted. How much fluff did he have in the quote? Anyway, since I am making a significant investment, I asked for more time to consider the quote. As with all negotiations, I asked him to put his last offer in writing. His reply, "if you sign today, I will give you a quote in writing." I then mentioned the amount of pressure. He said, "one week." Now, I'm upset. He went on, and on about how he will be slammed in a few weeks and, as a business person, he can make more concessions now than later. Just like everyone else, I plan on having a unit installed by mid-June. I just needed a second. The final straw is when he talked about how he's 36 and it took him along time to recognize when someone was going to provide quality work. I guess he didn't realize that I'm only a few years younger. Additionally, I am doing a complete DC reno. This isn't my first rodeo with contractors, as I recently had two bathrooms and a basement gutted. All I wanted was time to feel comfortable. That's only reasonable, right? $5k is nothing to sneeze at. Anyway, I really wanted to use Magnolia to the point that I asked if I could speak to someone else when I'm ready since he's going to be "slammed" in a few weeks. The last price he offered was in my budget ballpark; but I wanted time to rationalize whether I was getting a fair and reasonable price. He said, "he is it." Supposedly, there's nobody else in the entire company that can assist me. I guess I have to go elsewhere. Ugh. I really wanted to use this company; but need to feel comfortable doing so...
