How to Join
Membership requirements and the application process.
If you work in television, you may be eligible to join the Television Academy, attend our enriching and informative membership events, network with other television professionals representing all aspects of the industry, and vote for the Emmy awards.
Those working in nationally distributed television who qualify for National Active membership are eligible to vote in the Emmy competition; we also offer membership opportunities for professionals working in local news and programming, as well as Associate and Academic memberships.

Processing time for applications is 4-6 weeks.
Membership Types
National Active Membership
Individuals who at the time of qualifying meet the following minimum requirements:
- are at least eighteen (18) years of age
- are or have been actively engaged in activities related to the production or distribution of Television for National Exhibition during the four (4) immediately preceding years and:
- qualify for admission to one (1) or more of the Peer Groups (link) or
- have been nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award within the four (4) years immediately preceding their application for membership or
- have achieved a significant body of work relevant to the peer group that warrants a waiver of the peer group requirements
National Associate Membership
Individuals who are or have been actively engaged in activities related to the production or distribution of television for national exhibition and qualify for admission as an Associate member to one (1) of the Academy's Peer Groups.
Los Angeles Area Active Membership
Individuals who at the time of qualifying meet the following minimum requirements:
- are at least eighteen (18) years of age
- are currently working in the production or distribution of television for local exhibition within the Metropolitan Los Angeles Area
- meet the current Peer Group requirements
Los Angeles Area Associate Membership
Individuals who do not qualify for Active Los Angeles Area Membership but who are actively engaged in activities related to the production or distribution of Television for local exhibition within the Metropolitan Los Angeles and qualify for admission as an Associate Member to the Los Angeles Area Peer Group. Academic Membership
Students: are individuals who are eighteen (18) years of age and are either enrolled as a full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited degree or certificate granting institution in a course of study relating to Television. Student applications are accepted throughout the year and must be accompanied by proof of current registration.
Faculty: are individuals who hold a full-time or part-time faculty appointment at an accredited degree or certificate granting institution and instruct courses relating to television. Faculty applications must include a letter on letterhead from the institution where they work with the official title, department, area of expertise and the catalog description of the industry-related course(s) they are currently teaching.
Fees
Active Membership is $200 per year
Associate Membership is $125 per year
Academic Membership is $75 per year for a student or $100 per year for faculty
New applications are subject to a one-time nonrefundable processing fee of $50. Fees are payable by Visa, MasterCard or American Express.
Joining Film Group for an additional $95 per year entitles you and a guest to attend over 60 screenings per year of new theatrical motion pictures, for a total value of over $1,200. Screenings are held in the Wolf Theatre at the Saban Media Center, 5210 Lankershim Blvd., North Hollywood 91601 (Google Maps). NOTE: Film Group activities have been suspended until circumstances permit a resumption of in-person Academy programs.
