I don't really know what to make of this book. It's a collection of several essays that seem to have reoccuring themes about anxiety, abandonment, loneliness. You get stories about a whale who sings at a frequency too different from the other whales of his species to be able to notice him, people with disabilities who can escape into online worlds where they can hide their short-comings from the rest of the playerbase and find comfort, etc.
There also seems to be a bit of a mix thrown in about people who changed the face of journalism and writing in a way which Leslie (the author) I think tries to imitate, arguably successfully. I guess it's about being brutally honest, even if it comes off as well editted, some parts are rather blunt in a good way. Some people might peg her as extremely anxious or neurotic, but I found it to be just being human.
If you ever felt like an outsider, or alone in this world, I think this is a good book to read. You still might think these essays won't work for you, but I think at the very least, you'll find you're not alone (not by a long shot) in having these types of thoughts and anxious feelings.
