Your questions answered

How do I know if a listing is following the new safety and cleaning guidelines?

Beginning 20 November all hosts (except in China) will be required to commit to our new COVID-19 safety and cleaning practices, otherwise their accounts may be subject to warnings, suspensions and, in some cases, removal from the Airbnb platform. You can always tell whether a host has committed to the five-step enhanced cleaning process—just look for a sparkle icon and 'Enhanced Clean' at the top of a host’s listing page. Learn more about Airbnb Enhanced Clean.

All hosts and guests must also adhere to some essential COVID-19 safety practices recommended by the World Health Organization and US Center for Disease Control during their stay. This includes wearing a mask and social distancing when interacting with anyone who is not part of your reservation, such as your host. And, of course, we recommend to not host or travel if you’ve been exposed to or are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19. Review our COVID-19 community health guidelines.

You can always reach out to a host with specific questions about their health and safety practices in the Airbnb app.

How do I change or cancel an existing reservation?

If you need to change or cancel your reservation, visit the Trips section of Airbnb's website or app for more details about your current cancellation options. We have created this resource to help guests navigate cancellation processes and policies. Guests who can’t travel due to COVID-19 with reservations booked on or before 14 March 2020 may be eligible for cancellations without charges. Learn more about our extenuating circumstances policy.

How can I learn more about Airbnb’s response to COVID-19 as a traveller?

Visit our COVID-19 Resource Centre for travellers to discover articles and resources about travel restrictions, policies and more.

What COVID-19 policies have been created for Airbnb Experiences?

Airbnb Experiences are reopened in countries where relevant government rules allow. Guests and hosts are expected to uphold specific safety protocols for in-person experiences, including social-distancing, mask wearing and staying home if you have been exposed to COVID-19 or are feeling ill. Learn more about our Experiences health and safety guidelines.

If you’d rather do the experience with only your group, you can consider a private booking. If you feel uncomfortable gathering in groups or if in-person experiences have not yet reopened in your market, check out our online experiences.

What kind of flexible booking options are available on Airbnb?

Cancellation policies are set by hosts and vary between flexible, moderate and strict, depending on the listing. You can find details about the cancellation policy of each place to stay on the main page of each listing. We’ve added a new search filter to make it easier for you to find places with flexible cancellation policies. Learn more about the new filter.

How can I learn more as a host?

Hosts can visit our COVID-19 Resource Centre to discover articles and resources to help navigate hosting during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. Or visit our enhanced cleaning guide to learn more about the Airbnb's five-step enhanced cleaning process.

Beginning 20 November all hosts will be required to commit to our new COVID-19 safety and cleaning practices. By not attesting to the requirements by this date, your account may be subject to warnings, suspensions and, in some cases, removal from Airbnb.
