Support » Plugin: Elementor Website Builder » After two years – my website is gone

  • I’ve regretted building a website with a page builder elementor.

Each and every Elementor update has destroyed the part of my custom website.

Every time I had to repair my website.

Finally, I had enough – as I have other things to do in my life.
I’ve decided to stop updating the plugin, WP core, and PHP version.
(I have disabled all automatic updates – hosting support did the same on their side…)

Now, after two years If we look at the website frontend, everything looks good but pages cannot be edited with elementor and I am getting an error in the dev tools / console:

    – TypeError: Cannot read property ‘getEditModel’ of null at e.addCustomCss
    – Uncaught (in promise) TypeError: Cannot read property ‘getEditModel’ of null
    at e.addCustomCss

    Let me explain those errors:
While opening the page for editing with elementor editor, custom css should be added. It seems that property called “getEditModel” doesn’t have the expected value. This error code is placed in a file called editor.min.js version 2.4.3:2

So, it seems that the Elementor plugin has made an update through a hidden backdoor?
(I am not sure how this has happened, as I haven’t updated anything and yet a change is here…)

In the meantime, the major Elementor plugin update is released.

So, I’ve created a backup just in case and updated the website.

After that update, my entire website was gone. Maybe around 7% in total has left.

I’ve reverted the website from my backup and now it is time for me to build the entire website (88 pages) from scratch without using any page builder.

It seems that the most expensive option is to use the Elementor over the long run.
