I bought this to turn my Sony a7iii into a webcam for streaming on Twitch. Turns out it's good just to have, period, in a studio environment. The dummy battery is plastic and feels like it will break but if it does, I'll replace it as I need it regardless. Had the camera on for 6 hours my 1st use and it was warm but nothing concerning.

This is great. I shot for hours interviews after interviews, 4k 24fps Slog2. It never overheated indoors. Outdoors with an extension cord under shade it got warm but still lasted longer than the battery would have. The batteries for the sony alpha cameras hold so much heat, it's one of the reasons the cameras overheat. This is a great helper with that.

Unit worked fine for months, until the Sony battery warning triggered every power up indicating the battery was not safe.

I reached out to seller to inquire about this and the longer than expected warranty, and they advised me that they updated some battery software to keep pace with Sony and they would send me a replacement unit free of charge.

Within two days I had a brand new, working battery. The customer service from this team was spectacular, and I totally expected the usual “send us your battery and we will take 6 months to look at it” but boy, was I wrong.

!!WARNING!!
This dummy battery is not like many others. It fried my camera. Many other dummy batteries will take up to 30 Volts and regulate it to the 7.2v the camera needs on the dummy battery itself. This one REQUIRES the ac cord provided. Any other 12v dc power connected to this dummy battery at the 2.5mm connector will provide 12v to the camera and will fry your camera. Use with caution if you plan to use it with other DC power sources. I’ve used previous dummy batteries with 2.5mm connectors for my A7s and worked fine. This one sent my A7C to the manufacturer for (hopefully) repair.
