2.0 Release Candidate

The next release of WordPress is drawing near. Please help us shake out any last remaining bugs by downloading and testing the 2.0 Release Candidate. If all goes well, the Release Candidate will become 2.0 final. We’re almost there. Download, test, and head over to the Beta Forum to let us know if the Release Candidate is ready for prime time. Downloads taken down. Go get the real thing!

  227. […] After a week or so of trying out WordPress 2.0 Release Candidate, and ultimately the final release I decided to downgrade my install and return to 1.5.2. I missed the functionality provided by several plug ins that were not revised to work with WordPress 2.0, and I was unable to adapt them myself (not quite that savvy). Most notably the Live+Press plug in has proved to be a most valuable tool as this site was started up as a back up of my LiveJournal. After poking around the plug in author’s site I could find no evidence of a fix in the works ~ quite disheartening. While several of the visible new tweaks in WordPress 2.0 were nifty at first, they soon became bothersome. For example, I don’t need a WYSIWYG editor ~ I found it limiting and cumbersome to work around when necessary. Even after ‘turning off’ the editor it would still appear when writing entries. The small amount of lag time it added to the loading of the write page got to be a bit annoying. I’m sure the ‘under the hood’ improvements of WordPress 2.0 are quite fabulous, but my needs being minimal WordPress 1.5.2 worked just fine for me. […]
