    Second Bonus: Plugins can be written in entirely different languages, we’d just (“just”)need to write PHP-based parsers for those languages. I’m personally looking forward to writing plugins in COBOL.

    WordPress Feature That Should Definitely Happen And Isn’t A Terrible Idea At All #49543: Plugin sandboxing by parsing the plugin code, then evaluating the parse tree. Bonus: Plugins can support any version of PHP they like, since they’re not being executed by the PHP binary.

    WordPress exists within an ecosystem, and can only flourish if the ecosystem is healthy. Key to that health is data portability: site owners can choose to move at any time. If a service refuses to give their users that choice, I think we should step up.

    Some of the changes I'm proposing for the WordPress Importers are fairly substantial, and will naturally make the export format more complex. Defining a formal schema helps alleviate those complexities, and gives us guides for future expansion.
