The first Earth Day was April 22, 1970. The first Earth Day increased environmental awareness in America, and in July of 1970, the Environmental Protection Agency was established by special executive order to regulate and enforce national pollution legislation. Arlene Weible served on the DLC from 2011-2014 and served as chair 2013-2014. Weible continues to serve as Oregon’s Regional Coordinator along with her position as the Electronic Services Consultant at the State Library of Oregon. Recently, Weible helped launch an LSTA-funded project to catalog Oregon’s Regional FDLP collection housed at Portland State University. She was also elected to a leadership position in the Oregon Library Association and will begin serving her term as president in fall 2021.
