Winter 2021 Issue: Bridging the Research-Practice Divide

As NCFR members, we have a common goal reflected in NCFR’s mission statement: to promote family well-being. To achieve this goal, Family Science scholars, including researchers, educators, and practitioners, share a commitment to advancing evidence-based practice and applied research through translational science.
However, translational Family Science is more than merely translating research into practice. As detailed in the October 2017 special issue of Family Relations: Interdisciplinary Journal of Applied Family Science, it involves researchers and practitioners’ intentional efforts to bridge the science of discovery and the science of practice (Grzywacz & Allen, 2017).
The winter 2021 issue of Family Focus aims to highlight these joint efforts to bridge the research-practice divide. We seek articles that illustrate the successes, complexities, and lessons learned when research scientists and practice scientists work together to bridge discovery and practice science.
- How has the reciprocal cycle between basic discovery research and applied research across the various domains of Family Science (e.g., relationship education, parenting education, health promotion, social justice, etc.) been advanced?
- What are emerging models for the effective implementation and dissemination of evidence-based programs and practices?
- What approaches facilitate the transfer and sustainability of these programs and practices into the community?
- To what extent do established evidenced-based programs and practices need to be tailored to diverse populations?
- What strategies foster collaboration between researchers, practitioners, communities, and the families we aim to serve to advance this work?
Prospective authors should submit their proposal online by May 1, 2021.
