Welcome to the tourist office The Wikivoyage tourist office is a place where you can ask travel-related questions about any place in the world. Daufuskie Island

I understand that Daufuskie Island has no cars and the only way to the island is by boat. If I rent a house on the beach side and the ferry drops me off on the inland side, how do I get to the rental? There are apparently no taxis (or any cars of any kind) on the island. Can you get a bike on the ferry? It seems to be 5–7 km to the beach, depending on where your rental is. I also suppose there is some kind of transport – the road network seems to hint at that. I'd ask your landlord-to-be. Wikipedia says the locals use golf carts and bicycles, and that there also are some regular vehicles. –LPfi (talk) 16:36, 23 March 2021 (UTC)

According to the ferry website there are bikes and golf carts to rent and you can take your bike on the ferry for $8. Daufuskie Transit run something similar to a taxi. Also see [1]. AlasdairW (talk) 21:44, 23 March 2021 (UTC)

Pacific voyage across Micronesia, Melanesia, Polynesia and New Zealand.

Hello fellow travellers.

Being who I am, I tend to make these sort of sudden decisions, oft grandiose ones. And so I decided the other day to take upon myself the challenge of organising and eventually carrying out a trip of massive scales. A pacific voyage.

Starting from Palau in the western Pacific and ending in Rapa Nui (Easter Island) on the Southeastern Pacific.

I went through all Wikivoyage's pages concerning the nations of Oceania, and later made a map itinerary of all the nations and autonomous entities I intend to visit. The direction, arrivals and departures to and from each island is based upon the form of getting in the country from other countries which provide flights/ships to the country of concern.

Me being young, I hope and wish to complete this trip on a low budget, and as I will be traveling on my own, I have no rush and am willing to take the longer, odder and more memorable way of transportation across the Pacific.

It is important for me to mention a couple of facts that will bring ease to my trip:

1. I have 3 passports: Israeli, American and German. A combination of such will pretty much allow me to enter any country visa free/visa on arrival.
2. . I have 3 years of navy expertise, serving in the Red Sea area on military freighters and destroyer class vessels.
3. Going back to my passport miracle, I therefore can be an employee and legally earn money in American unincorporated territories, will I be able to work on French collectivities as well?

My question is very general and more of a cry for help to get this thing functioning and running as planned. For those who went to these remote islands, I will very much appreciate it if you could tell the story of how you got there. Most importantly, is it possible to travel to some destinations by ship/freighter/boat/yacht for free in exchange for manpower and expertise? And paying is a must, will it be cheaper than a flight?.

In your position, I'd be looking for work on Cruise ships in the region (once COVID calms down a lot & you are vaccinated). If you speak as many languages as you have passports, they might be eager to have you. I'd also look at working holiday visas and perhaps working on yachts. Pashley (talk) 09:53, 7 April 2021 (UTC)

Being a German citizen, you are thereby automatically an EU-citizen. Now, I know that EU citizens are allowed to work in mainland France same as any French citizen, but I am not 100% certain as to the various overseas DOM and TOM of France... Hobbitschuster (talk) 09:56, 7 April 2021 (UTC)

Per this EU citizenship applies to all French territories, but I would certainly double check that with official sources... Hobbitschuster (talk) 10:04, 7 April 2021 (UTC)

Definitely check, as the citizenship rights may not be reciprocal in the overseas territories (i.e. just because TOM citizens are EU citizens, doesn't necessarily mean EU citizens from other countries have the same rights, especially to work, in those territories.)--ThunderingTyphoons! Berg River Dam

Sonwabiso, this isn't the right place you get an answer to your question. Wikivoyage is a travel guide, so it isn't concerned with the economic aspects of a dam. I suggest you go to Wikipedia to see if there is an article there about this dDam. Ground Zero (talk) 20:18, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
