Wheat's Landscape

Wheat's clean up service put our garden in fresh form to allow us to attend to the neglected plantings and flower beds. We were so delighted with results and Wheat's accommodation of special requests, that we saw our garden with new eyes. After clean out--our garden was nominated for local garden of the year and we were inspired to put some effort into sprucing up. Our garden was one ot those chosen in the judging. Thanks to the hard work of Wheat's team.

Moyers Lawn Service & Landscaping

Very well! We have used Moyers Lawn Service for many years for monthly fertilizing, and the owner, Dale Moyers, responded quickly when we requested an estimate to replace our bushes. He had great suggestions and came back with a fair price. The work was completed on the day scheduled by a skilled, professional crew. Several months later, we determined that one of the bushes was in "distress," so we contacted Dale. He came out in 24 hours to take a look and had the bush replaced the next day.

Buyer beware warning. Garden clean up was done very well. He provided the service, we paid. Then we asked for 2 gardens to be designed. He demands a 50 percent non-refundable deposit before he would begin any work on the gardens. We offered to pay for all supplies as soon as they were delivered, and even offered to pay the suppliers directly. These were unacceptable to him. This was a $5000.00 job. As a business person I would not give a non-refundable deposit for any service contract. This only protected his interests not mine. So customers of Quinns Landscaping beware.

Glorious Gardens

I'm not even sure where to start to fully capture the deep friendship that was ignited by Esther's visit to my home. As someone who had just purchased a home and knows little to nothing about gardening, I couldn't have asked for a better gardening fairy godmother. The Glorious Gardens work is flawless, Esther has checked in on us multiple times, and she came in UNDER BUDGET! Beyond these points, Esther's core being is that of an educator and she spent the day teaching me how to care for the gardens and tricks she uses for upkeep and fertilizing. I've been able to connect to the house in a more meaningful way this Summer since the restoration work on these gardens and neighbors have popped by to thank and congratulate us for bringing the gorgeous garden accents of this home back to life. This business is an ambassador to the community for all the good in it and any person, home, or business should count themselves extremely lucky to work with them. As a bonus surprise, I got a call about a week later and Esther had been out and about with another client and discovered two garden sculptures for our home that were PERFECT additions to complete the front look! This will not be our last time working with Glorious Gardens.

I don't have a real good comparison regarding their price. They are very responsive and timely. They have a very transparent approach to highlighting the different costs. They have good materials for the customer to read and a comprehensive work site. They are not finished but so far the work has been good.

I got several bids for a backyard perennial garden, and there estimate was the most reasonable. They put in hostas, astilbe, camellia, japanese maple, roses and hyrangeas. Some of the plants didn't thrive in the location where they were put, so Robert came back out and replaced them. Took awhile but the result is stunning.

Backyard Bounty
5.0
A large project, involving the removal of front yard sod (approximately 4500 sq feet). Edamarie Mattei , owner of Backyard Bounty was retained to install a native, drought tolerant meadow garden, a rain garden and to assist with navigating the requirements of Montgomery County's Rainscape rebate program. I worked with Edamarie and her colleague Alison Jones for several months on the design for this complex garden installation. During this process we discussed the design options, met in person and exchanged many e-mails, to achieve the most optimum, detailed plan for the property. During each phase of the design process, Edamarie paid careful attention to our property requirements (which included water run-off issues, and a slope) as well as our aesthetic requests. E-mails were answered timely and questions were answered with detailed explanations from both a design as well as the botanical perspective to make sure the material which was installed would be appropriate for the growing conditions. Special attention was paid to my requests for plants of a certain color and growing habit. My concerns about the walkability and safety of hardscape steppers was taken very seriously and were discussed at length (pictures also provided by Backyard Bounty) to make sure I would be happy with the selection. The final plan was exceptional. The plan was reviewed by a Montgomery Rainscapes representative. When questions and some perc issues arose, Edamarie did an excellent job communicating with the Rainscapes program, answering the questions and assisting me through some perc test problems to ensure I would be eligible for the maximum rebate. At the end of the project, after the final inspection, I received the full $2500.00 rebate as a result of her guidance. The day of plant delivery/installation, the Backyard Bounty team and I inspected every plant (approximately 600 plants) and each was in excellent condition. The Backyard Bounty installation team was top-notch, knowledgeable and careful in their work. They worked long hours every day to make sure the installation went as smoothly as possible. Edamarie was present at the site for parts of everyday during the installation to address the inevitable changes that come along with projects of this size. When she was not there, a team supervisor or team lead was present to make sure the plan was followed and implemented correctly. At the end of the installation Edamarie reviewed the plan with me. We went over the changes made during the installation. There was also a walk through to ensure I had a good understanding of the plant names. Unforseen items found along the way, which are part of every project , were addressed creatively and efficiently. Communication throughout the project installation was excellent. Edamarie kept me aware of what was to be happening at the beginning of each day of the installation so expectations were accurately met. The garden is now beautiful and flourishing. I have requested assistance from Backyard Bounty with certain maintenance work. Edamarie is very flexible in helping to identify what work can be done at the moment and what may be deferred to save on financial and material resources. I look forward to working with Backyard Bounty again on future projects.

ALDERTREE GARDEN
5.0
I had been wanting to plant more native species in the front yard, but never got around to it on my own. When I learned Lisa Caprioglio of Aldertree Garden specialized in planting native species, she stood out among the garden designers in the area. Lisa met with me to discuss flower and tree preferences and location. She then proposed a garden design for the front and side of the house. After we tweaked the proposed design, she brought her crew to install the gardens. Lisa was really helpful in suggesting what would do really well in the different garden areas. Once the work got started, we had an additional cost we had not anticipated. We discovered that the soil below the grass was full of pebbles. She and her crew carefully removed the soil one wheelbarrow at a time because they had to avoid the huge number of roots from our prized maple tree. In its place, Lisa filled the area with super rich soil which helped all the plants establish themselves well and even helped the trees nearby. We now have a bird garden, a side garden, and a forest garden. Lisa created a bird garden to attract the local birds as well as those that migrate through the area. In the summer, at the height of the blooms, we had the regulars--cardinals, house finches, wood peckers, doves, and chickadees. We also had special visits by several gold finches. We love Lisa's ideas, patience, and work ethic. I have continued to use her services since the garden was first installed. I highly recommend Lisa of Aldertree Garden.

Gardens Remembered, LLC

Garden's Remembered is primarily a landscape and garden maintenance company. I was looking for someone to design and plant a 500 sq foot garden in my back yard.  This was beyond the scope of their primary business. However both Steve and Gabrielle the owners were extremely friendly and helpful in providing referrals to other companies that do landscape design work. I may use them for maintenance once I have the garden installed. Even though I didn't have any work preformed their professionalism and helpfulness stands out. I would not hesitate to recommend you contact them if you have landscaping or garden maintenance needs.

Recent Review: Side yard retaining walls needed replacement with cement bricking, back railroad ties needed to be replaced with block, and the large garden area needed to be lined with cement logs and a path created. Garden was relocated just a bit to solve a drainage problem. It is beautiful and very professionally done and we couldn't be more pleased. Work was completed on time and high quality materials were used. It wasn't cheap, but be are confident it will give us years of pleasure and reassurance the problems will never occur. Great company and quality work.

Recent Review: Riley was very professional and came by a week ago to go over what I wanted done.  The gardens around our house needed a general cleaning of weeds, left over leaves from last fall, and removal of debris.  He quoted me a price for the extra work and came with a whole crew to do the work a week later.  They were done in about 3 hours and it looks ten times better!  Now I feel I can manage the Spring season.  Also Riley was very informative about the trees and what work needed to be done in the future.  He gave me a very  reasonable quote for tree pruning and removal.

Recent Review: We had 3 raised garden beds built in our backyard. Green Spaces also ran our hose line out to the garden area via a buried hose from the house and they extended our lawn to make a nicer edge. They sent two guys out and it took them two and a half days to complete. The garden beds are beautiful with river rock around them to keep the weeds down! And the hose right there by the garden is amazing. I'm extremely satisfied with the work and would highly recommend Green Spaces for any landscaping projects.

Recent Review: This is the third time I have used Ed's Tree Service over the past nine years: first for taking down a swamp maple that was too close to the house; second for pruning three trees; and this time to trim an oak tree and take down a maple that, in addition to being too close to my house, has been dying back slowly for about eight years and had begun to shed worrisomely large branches during thunderstorms.  When the crew was pruning the oak tree, I was dismayed about the amount of branches on the ground; but now that the tree has leafed out, it looks beautiful.  It also seems like there's less wind resistance during storms, which is a good thing as the tree is close to the house but so beautiful I cannot bear to have it removed. The crew did an excellent job, keeping the removed branches away from the house and grinding up the smaller branches.  They neatly stacked the larger pieces of wood on my property, and cleaned up fallen twigs and sawdust from the grinding equipment.  They were also conscientious about the garden, asking about the blooming daffodils under the tree that was to be removed; but as the bloom cycle was almost over, I told them not to worry about stepping on some of the flowers. Tree service is expensive, but after using their services for the first time I've received annual coupons for tree work scheduled in the off season (I think this work was 20% off, which seems to be the usual amount Ed's has been offering for late winter / early spring work.)  I would use them again and be happy to recommend them to friends and neighbors.

Recent Review: Was responsive in terms of time and information.  Gave sound advice on what should be done, performed the work timely and kept me current on the state of the work.  Additional work was required and they were direct about the pricing and what would be done.  They performed the work well and quickly.  It's a relief to have the yard in shape and ready for the spring.

Recent Review: The cost was reasonable and the final quality was satisfactory. Ran into some bumps on the way: The patio was intended to channel rainwater away from house. Initially, the way it was installed, it pooled right near the house. Upon my request, the part of the patio that pooled was picked up, extra material was added and it seems to be draining correctly now. The other problem was that the terraced garden beds were filled with the material removed from the back yard despite the fact that they were going to be gardened in. I had to request that the material be removed so I could get topsoil in. First Impressions quoted doing that for 250$. I found a local place that would deliver for 92$. When First Impressions heard that, they dropped the price to 120$. Overall, the job ended up being satisfactory, but I wasn't impressed with communication and I'm not sure it would have been done correctly had I not been checking on everything daily and requesting that things be done according to the contract.

Recent Review: Jeff Mottern and his team are consummate professionals. Last summer, he and his crew transformed the aging concrete front steps and walkway of our house with bricks that held up beautifully over the winter, despite being covered with thick ice several times. Last week, they extended our existing backyard brick patio and also replaced crumbling steps leading to the back gate with brick. In addition, they replaced worn and broken railroad ties with stone. My wife and I decided that we wanted to have a raised stone wall around the area where we plant our garden to add visual interest and function - the wall could serve as a place to sit and to easily reach garden tools and grilling utensils. The wall is stunning. We assumed that it would be built from pre-cut, uniform pieces of stone. Instead, Jeff's craftsmen cut and shaped the stone pieces that make up the wall from large slabs of stone! This was true masonry. It was fascinating watching them work with hammer and chisel, create the wall from unique pieces of stone, and artfully apply mortar. Jeff and/or his team always showed up on time, worked long hours and were invariably courteous and professional. I had a few issues during the installation of the brick that replaced the steps. Jeff had these problems addressed and corrected very quickly and the result is a gorgeous backyard that my wife and I plan to show to friends and relatives with great pride. We can't wait to start planting to really show off Jeff's work. I have my own business and deal with vendors all the time. I have also hired my share of contractors for home improvement and maintenance. Jeff and his team stand above just about all of them in terms of professionalism, skills, meeting deadlines, and honesty and integrity..

What exactly do gardeners near me do?

Gardeners transform lawns and gardens into attractive spaces. With a neatly trimmed lawn and a colorful garden, enjoy your home even more and increase its curb appeal. Gardening services vary, from individual casual laborers to skilled professionals and full-service landscaping companies. Here's a list of typical gardener services:

  • Mowing lawns
  • Plant grafting
  • Trimming trees
  • Pruning shrubs
  • Fertilizing lawns
  • Weeding of garden beds
  • Sharpening lawnmower blades
  • Tree, flower and plant healthcare
  • Water irrigation and plant watering
  • Water garden maintenance
  • Insect treatments

The type of work will ultimately determine the gardeners cost.

How much do gardeners near me cost?

The national average is between $100 and $200 per month for gardening. This covers the cost of basic services such as trimming grass, cleaning the yard and planting grass, vegetation and other plants in your garden. Reach out to at least three gardeners in your area for prices quotes to get a sense of your area's cost average.

There are typically three types of gardening services you can hire.

  1. Casual laborers - These are simply part time workers who carry out basic gardening services. They often cost $10 to $25 per hour, and they use basic hand-held tools (or a lawnmower) for their services.
  2. Gardening professionals - Hire professional gardeners who have appropriate experience and expertise. They cost $20 to $50, and tend to use more sophisticated equipment during service delivery. Professional gardeners can work with you to aerate soil, install an irrigation system, and add fertilizer to plants.
  3. Landscaping companies - If in need of more in-depth work, landscaping companies provide comprehensive services that include fixing drainage issues, planting new vegetation, and routine maintenance. They often cost $50 to $150 per hour.

Why should I hire a gardener near me?

Gardeners provide valuable services but more importantly they provide experience. The internet and local garden store clerks cannot compare to a hands on experienced professional standing in your yard selecting plants that grow well in your area. The gardener's cost often includes adding fertilizer to soil, removing weeds and cutting grass. Gardeners may also provide edging services in order to clearly separate walkways from the main garden area. Irrigation is another complicated part of gardening. A professional can install the right sprinkler system or visit to regularly water plants.
