I created a term that doesnβt yet exist for thoughts that often arise, in order to make sense of my own emotions. The term is βpoor privilegeβ, and yes it means exactly what it sounds like: feeling privileged while being poor. Itβs a super weird, strange, and odd feeling that I frequently have. Is it possible for poor people to be privileged when weβre already at a heightened disadvantage? The short answer is βNoβ, there simply isnβt any privilege in poverty; however I canβt seem to shake the feeling that I am equal parts both poor and privileged.

If youβve read my βAbout Meβ section you should know that I live in New York City, but if you didnβt have a chance to read it or this is your first time here, you know now. I live in a very boring, quiet, and residential area of Brooklyn. I always make the assertion that the most exciting thing about my neighborhood is the train station and I mean it.
I can travel throughout most boroughs within the city on $2.75. I consider that to be a semi steal yet low-key highway robbery considering how much subway fares have increased throughout the years. And raising the price of subway fare as opposed to lowering it never has any wiggle room.Β
Big Body, Small Voice
Being fat and introverted truly sucks, it doesnβt do me any favors. Itβs expected of me to acquire many of the stereotypical fat people personality traits, and when I fail to check off those tiny individual boxes, the disappointment on peopleβs faces begin to visibly emerge. But thatβs just the price I have to pay for living in an extrovert world and having the flesh on my stomach resemble steel armor. No, I am not from medieval times. And yes, that was a joke.
Body Positivity Encourages Obesity
Letβs play a game of truth or dare. I dare you to name another plus size actor, singer, model, or rapper besides Lizzo in 5 seconds. You need more time? Okay I’ll give you 5 more seconds. Still having difficulty finding an answer right? And thatβs because thereβs RARELY any plus size individuals in the spotlight. Ironically for plus size people, stages arenβt being built big enough for us to stand on.
The fat girl trope has to die and remain dead. Itβs overused, abused, and highly flawed.
You didnβt read the title incorrectly. Fat girls actually have lives. Itβs true and we do. Weβre living and breathing organisms that are productive, set out to do shit and get shit done. We donβt spend 10 hours a day looking into a well made IKEA mirror, trying to forcibly cut off the fat on our stomachs with a rusted silver knife. We have fucking lives.
