They don’t seem to like each other anymore.

Pff. For now Akismet deactivated, but maybe it’s wiser to deactivate Buddypress Activity?

Hi there,

I’m able to reproduce this in my BuddyPress test instance, but nothing has changed on the AKismet plugin side to lead to the issue. I’m looking into why BP is suddenly passing data in a format that’s no longer compatible.

Hi there.

First, let me apologize: I got sidetracked at the time, and this issue escaped me… Sorry about that.

This said, the changes I’ve made in https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/2247472 will already alleviate the displaying of the errors/warnings.

The core reason is that you most likely have empty values in wp_commentmeta records that hold the akismet_history data.

We’ve identified that the WP Importer plugin (at least) might be having issues with that. Have you imported some of the data, by any chance? If not, it could be for similar reasons. We’re digging into it more.

Hi Stephane,

No need to apoligize!

The commentmeta table is indeed (totally) empty. I’ve checked also an older backup (04-06-2019) and the commentmeta table is also empty.

In your case, BuddyPress’ BP_Akismet::get_activity_history() gets some data in an unexpected format here: https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/trunk/src/bp-activity/classes/class-bp-akismet.php#L655

And that leads to the error with usort() you are reporting.

I’ve opened a BP ticket for the problem here: https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/8240

Could you maybe comment there, for the BP devs to handle that side of things?

I’ve also opened a Github issue for the WP Importer plugin, but that’s unlikely to be related to your issue: https://github.com/WordPress/wordpress-importer/issues/67

I posted this with Buddypress and Akismet and Akismet replied (buddypress did not).
I deactivated Akismet until today when I received response from Akismet (Stephane).

So to gather more info I reactivated Akismet and low and behold, the problem seems to be gone.

Current versions :
Wordpress 5.3.2
Akismet 4.1.3
Buddypress 5.1.2
php 7.3.14

So I’m not able to recreate the usort error anymore.

Can’t see the rror anymore in the dashboard, but the error log says otherwise:
