    • @azhiyadev asked, Volunteers still needed for Using blocks in a Post. Although,@poena may be working on this. @evarlese has already done a video workshop for this and @courane01 picked it up.

    • @ashiquzzaman volunteered to review Reusable Blocks and BlockBlock Block is the abstract term used to describe units of markup that, composed together, form the content or layout of a webpage using the WordPress editor. The idea combines concepts of what in the past may have achieved with shortcodes, custom HTML, and embed discovery into a single consistent API and user experience. Directory lesson plans.
  2. Slides unified and proposal submitted to MetaMeta Meta is a term that refers to the inside workings of a group. For us, this is the team that works on internal WordPress sites like WordCamp Central and Make WordPress. (help us test)
    • This pluginPlugin A plugin is a piece of software containing a group of functions that can be added to a WordPress website. They can extend functionality or add new features to your WordPress websites. WordPress plugins are written in the PHP programming language and integrate seamlessly with WordPress. These can be free in the WordPress.org Plugin Directory https://wordpress.org/plugins/ or can be cost-based plugin from a third-party helps creates slides and that one can easily update/revise on Learn WordPress.
    • You are encouraged to test and provide any feedback on the post.
    • @azhiyadev said few people have been testing this. Do we think we are in a position to go ahead with this?
      – Team has given their views on this.
      – @courane01 said with coordination of the Workshop working group we composed a joint proposal for meta.
      – @evarlese will include this topic in the next Learn Working Group Meeting.
      – @azhiyadev agreed and adding it into the March Sprint.
  3. @harishanker shared an idea and asked for the team’s feedback.
    • @harishanker said, creating a dedicated workshop focussed on WordPress 5.7 itself, similar as we are working on a lesson plan.
    • @courane01 said, having an additional piece of content may complicate things?  Rather than a lesson about a version, we can focus on revising all the screenshots across all lesson plans impacted by a version and listing where the content was updated. and we could assist with any demo and release work #marketing does to promote the info for sure.
    • @azhiyadev, Agreed on the lesson plans. On having a video on what is coming or what to expect but WP Briefing kinda covers that without any visuals.
    • @courane01 see some content as “courses” and others that are more 1-off workshops.  The lifespan and use of version release may offer historical value but becomes obsolete after the next version ships.  And we haven’t been super efficient at reviewing all the content we have to revise as new versions ship new features.
    • @evarlese credit @harishanker with this thought, but we can also consider how discussion groups might fit into that as well for more Q&A about new tools or features.
    • @courane01 said if we have a major releaseMajor Release A set of releases or versions having the same major version number may be collectively referred to as “X.Y” -- for example version 5.2.x to refer to versions 5.2, 5.2.1, and all other versions in the 5.2. (five dot two dot) branch of that software. Major Releases often are the introduction of new major features and functionality. that changes many obvious features, that we get the existing videos and lesson plans up to date.  Then a summary 1-off piece with a short shelf life, but possibly a very lively real-time discussion would fit in well. That would very likely be exciting to promote and attract attendees to the discussion group portion. But a focus on updating our source materials on Learn & Docs seems important to make the most of life in a release cycle.

She was discussing the team roles and using the ones currently listed in TrelloTrello Project management system using the concepts of boards and cards to organize tasks in a sane way. This is what the make.wordpress.com/marketing team uses for example: https://trello.com/b/8UGHVBu8/wp-marketing. and she will work on it during the Friday office hours.

Learn WordPress Handbook

  • @camikaos hosted a sprint for the Learn WordPress Handbook last week.
  • The sprint focused on reviewing the existing Handbook drafts and adding in/making edits based on feedback.
  • For next steps, there is still a need for additional contributors to review and add any suggestions or edit to the draft Handbook pages.
    • For access to the Google doc to review and comment on the draft, please ask in the #training channel.
  • From the sprint, one item to be decided is where the Handbook should live: on the Make/Training team blog (this site) or in Learn WordPress itself.

Design UIUI UI is an acronym for User Interface - the layout of the page the user interacts with. Think ‘how are they doing that’ and less about what they are doing./UXUX UX is an acronym for User Experience - the way the user uses the UI. Think ‘what they are doing’ and less about how they do it. Review for Learn WordPress

  • Some Design team members have left feedback on the Review/Feedback Request: UX for learn.wordpress.org with suggested changes and/or improvements. Those include:
    • Making changes to the text on the home page, especially to clarify workshops and lesson plans.
    • Organizing content around topics and categories for both lesson plans and workshops in a unified way.
    • Revising the home page layout to highlight calls to action/content types differently.
  • @paaljoachim shared some additional thoughts/feedback on the terminology for workshops, as well, and plans to brainstorm some thoughts around definitions.
  • As a next step, the idea is to write up a proposal/post for the team to review and discuss the text on the home page, whether to make changes, and review how that aligns with Learn WordPress’ goals and mission.

    • Training will operate sprint as a month-long cycle with specific goals for now.  Other goals, like Learn functionality, that go beyond CoreCore Core is the set of software required to run WordPress. The Core Development Team builds WordPress. releases will be part of the Learn Working Group.  Defining who are our key stakeholders for March and planning times to gather is our goal for this month.

What’s everyone working on?

  • @camikaos is working on the Learn WordPress Handbook, and set up a sprint for contributors interested in helping.
  • @_dorsvenabili held two meetings with members of the Spanish community, and set up a sheet with workshop proposals/ideas.
    • One idea that came up in these conversations is to create a list of 10-20 workshops that should be available in all languages.
  • @evarlese worked on a UX review request for the Design team along with @courane01, and @paaljoachim has already shared some related feedback.
  • @webcommsat and the Marketing team are working on a keywords-related meeting in the #marketing channel, and have also been gathering feedback on the timing of MeetupMeetup All local/regional gatherings that are officially a part of the WordPress world but are not WordCamps are organized through https://www.meetup.com/. A meetup is typically a chance for local WordPress users to get together and share new ideas and seek help from one another. Searching for ‘WordPress’ on meetup.com will help you find options in your area. groups and coordinating/exploring promotions for planned workshops.
  • @webtechpooja is organizing the Training team table for WordCamp India contributor day, and has published a helpful post for how contributors can get involved.
  • We talked a bit about plans for Community team-related training and content on Learn, particularly around Meetups and WordCamps.
    • Currently, the focus is more on Meetups and there are some related workshops available on the site already.

Announcements

5.7 Planning

  • The Training team has identified some lesson plan ideas to prepare in advance of the 5.7 launch.
  • Going forward, this may be something for the Learn WordPress Working Group to coordinate efforts around, particularly in terms of planned workshop launches.
  • @webcommsat suggested finding a dedicated time to walk through ideas and processes to coordinate across teams to make sure workshops and lesson plans help address launch-related questions.
  • Related to Lowering Barriers to Entry for Workshops on Learn, we talked a bit about ideas around how workshops and lesson plans tie in together, and with cross-team efforts.
  • @carike raised a concern about crediting all contributors, specifically for workshops, where it’s not currently visible to see who contributed things like scripts, producing, subtitles, captions, etc.
  • Relatedly, if some of these tasks are divided, credit is important for making sure all contributions are viewed equally. Allowing contributors to split the workload according to their preferences and expertise (i.e. if someone prefers to write lesson plans vs. appearing on camera) can help with onboarding new contributors, and making sure those contributions are visible.
  • @webcommsat suggested borrowing a similar structure to WordPress.tv, where it’s possible to see credits for edits, subtitles, and presenters.

Learn WordPress Handbook

Action Items

  • Explore changing the Learn WordPress Discussions Meetup group timezone from Pacific to UTC to encourage more consistency with timezones.
  • Coordinate dedicated time (Slack, Zoom, chat) to discuss with Marketing, the Learn WordPress Working Group, and Training, how best to approach planned content for CoreCore Core is the set of software required to run WordPress. The Core Development Team builds WordPress. releases.
  • List out all the related contributions to content on Learn WordPress (i.e. subtitles, captions, scripts, producing) and map out where those should appear on Learn WordPress (i.e. workshops vs. lesson plan pages) to help build a request for showing credit similar to the WordPress.tv structure.
  • Help draft documentation around how to contribute to Learn WordPress in multiple languages based on the related Polyglots proposal.
  • Join the efforts to help build and create a Learn WordPress Handbook.
