Family Scientists create meaningful change for families across society.

In the policy world, for instance, every issue is a family policy issue. Whether examining paid family leave or the tax code, there’s an undeniable impact on families.

That, says Dr. Kelly Roberts, means that Family Science isn't just important — it's essential.

Family Science scholars and professionals are equipped to consider family problems and solutions at all levels, and to determine how new policy could impact families.

"Family Science skills help me reframe messages to policymakers," Dr. Roberts says. "In essence, I speak 'Family Science,' a universal language like music and math that helps everyone involved come together."

Families don't come with instruction manuals. Family Scientists, however, understand and apply what we know about healthy family functioning so families can thrive.

Earning a Family Science degree is a great way to start on the path to becoming a Family Scientist. Hundreds of colleges and universities offer academic programs in Family Science, where you can gain the knowledge and skills you’ll need for your profession — whether that’s in research, education, policy, or one of many practitioner careers.
