The Department of Investigation released a report, on Friday morning, which found that New York Police Department officers used “excessive force” against protesters who took to the streets after the death of George Floyd. The NYPD’s response undermined was "counterproductive to reducing tensions and increasing public trust in the authority of the police,” according to the DOI report. Mayor Bill de Blasio, who defended the police response at the time, publicly responded to the report and issued an apology. Police Commissioner Dermot Shea said he plans to act on the report's recommendations.

That doesn’t mean we have no ICU beds or staff available at all,” Gov. Gavin Newsom said at a press conference on Monday. When an ICU reaches 0% capacity, hospitals likely place patients in open beds elsewhere, such as emergency department rooms. The California Department of Public Health also reported on Thursday that the San Joaquin Valley region is at less than 1% ICU bed capacity.
