A fascinating read, that gives me hope in this post-COVID19 world. It is interesting to think that this was written before everyone became the "underwear-clad army of online home workers" that David Eagleman talks about. The Safety Net analyzes disasters that left previous civilizations in ruins, and compares them to today's society and how the internet is literally a "safety net" for many of those old problems. Definitely worth reading. Mr. Eagleman manages to be scientifically informative, while being lyrical and enjoyable.

Concentrated with information and lush with metaphors, this is a great read that couldn't be more timely. Its hopeful message unfolds in beautifully reasoned and well-argued chapters. Highly recommended.

Really a great read. It's refreshing to zoom out and reconsider where we are technologically from a 10,000+ year vantage point. David Eagleman is one of the most insightful and original thinkers of our generation. Hard to believe he wrote about many of these ideas over 10 years ago in light of what's happening now with COVID-19... spot on! Highly recommend. Also check out his other book SUM if you haven't.
