Roxanne White, an activist for missing and murdered indigenous people, visits a new mural featuring her likeness in Pioneer Square Thursday October 29, 2020. White, an enrolled citizen of the Nez Perce Tribe who was born and raised on the Yakama Nation Reservation, is hoping that the public art campaign helps to get folks excited and motivated to vote. “Voting is not just about the president,” White said. “We got to vote on every level… I have struggles but I’m here and I’m going to do this.” The mural is part of a campaign around land stewardship for Indigenous Peoples’ Day by non-profits Amplifier, Nia Tero and IllumiNatives, and was painted by Vermont artist LMNOPI, based on a photograph by Brandee Paisano of Seattle. It will be painted with a new livery after the plane is ungrounded and Boeing secures a customer. Nearly 200 completed Boeing 737 MAX airplanes destined for airlines worldwide, are parked at the Grant County International Airport in Moses Lake Washington.
