How does Facebook Pay work?

Facebook Pay is a seamless and secure way to make payments on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp. You enter your payment account information once and then use Facebook Pay across the apps. A PIN or device biometrics can be added to secure individual payments. Facebook Pay is also a way to view payment history, manage payment information, and access customer support. Facebook Pay is available in the US on Facebook and Messenger and is rolling out on Instagram. It will continue to roll out to other apps and countries, bringing this service to more people over time. Check Facebook Pay's availability where you live.

What do I need to do to get started with Facebook Pay?

You can start using Facebook Pay on Facebook or Messenger with just a few taps: Go to Facebook or Messenger > “Settings” > “Facebook Pay” and add your preferred payment method—credit card, debit card, or PayPal (options dependent on product)—and complete the payment set up. To start using Facebook Pay on Instagram, go to > “Settings” > “Orders and Payments” and add your preferred payment method. For added security, you will have the option to create a PIN or use your device biometrics, and you can do so when making a payment where Facebook Pay is available.

If you already have payment methods on file, those payment methods will be available to use with Facebook Pay immediately.

What is the relationship between Facebook Pay and Facebook?

Facebook Pay is a service offered by Facebook. The service is currently available in the US on Facebook and Messenger and is rolling out on Instagram; Facebook Pay will continue to roll out to other apps and countries with the intention of bringing this service to more people over time.

Do you need to have a Facebook account to use Facebook Pay?

Facebook Pay is currently available in the US on Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger. You can set up Facebook Pay directly within each app, and you will not need a Facebook account to set up Facebook Pay when it rolls out to other apps in the future. Is making payments with Facebook Pay secure?

We use advanced technology to keep payment information secure. Facebook Pay is secure and protected with:

  • Anti-fraud technology monitors purchases on our systems to detect unauthorized activity.

  • Advanced data storage and encryption for payment card and bank account details.

  • Notifications when we detect unusual activities on your account.

  • You can also add a PIN or use your device biometrics for added security when sending money or making a payment. Facebook does not receive or store your device’s biometric information.

What is the relationship between Facebook Pay and Checkout for Instagram?

When checking out on Instagram, people in the US will now use Facebook Pay for a secure and seamless payment experience. We are rolling out Facebook Pay on Instagram to a small set of people in the US first, with the intention to bring this service to more people over time. During this transition, some people will still see Instagram Checkout.
