How do I see which friends are active on Facebook?

To see which friends are active in chat:
- From your News Feed, go to Contacts on the right side.
- On the list of names, find people with a
or a recent time next to their names. This means they are active or have been recently active on Facebook or Messenger.
When your Active Status is turned on, you'll also appear active to your friends and contacts or display a recently active time. Learn how to turn off your Active Status. You can also block messages from people to not share your Active Status with a specific person.
Keep in mind that messages you send to people who aren't currently active will still go to their Chat list. Find who you want to talk to in the chat sidebar to see if they're active in chat:
