We planned to launch the new today, but given the security incident yesterday we're pressing pause. There's no evidence the incident involved our API, but we decided to move the launch date to a more appropriate time.

Some Trivia Twitter launched in 2006, and just a few months later, the Twitter API was released. 🎉 The first s̶e̶t̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶d̶o̶c̶s̶ doc for v1 looked like this 👇

A screenshot of Twitter's very first official API documentation from 2006 which contains Twitter's old logo and branding. The Twitter API documentation was aimed at developers who were making "a fancy badge, Twittermap, or timeline visualization" and exposed JSON and XML endpoints and authentication requirements for viewing timelines, seeing your friends and followers, and updating your Twitter. There was a special callout at the end for resources for ActionScript developers building Flash applications.
